Anyone review this place yet? Going in a few days with my wife and it's paid for. Any must order items? Thanks for the suggestions.

You have to get the Death by Gumbo. And I think there is an older review somewhere on the board.

There has been a lot of chat on this place. From my experience and what I've read in various place they are pretty inconsistent. When I went the service was fine but the food failed to wow. It was just an average meal that we paid a lot more for. The bar is great and I go there for drinks from time to time.

I went for lunch one day during Coolinary. Not bad, but I don't think I'd go back on my own dime. The turtle soup was awesome, but the entre wasn't memorable as I can't recall what it was.

Death by Gumbo was great.
I had a steak one time as well.

Everyone at the table was pleased.

I think you must be right about the inconsistency because when I went (about a year ago) it was fantastic.

Its a hit or miss place. It was a pretty amazing experience for me the 1st time I ate there but I cant say the same for the 2nd go around.

Must try/get dishes

HogHead Cheese
Truffled Mashed Potatoes
Espresso-crusted Venison Carpaccio
Lamb Chops
Linguine with Manilla Clams

Death by Gumbo is not worth it.

No need to order dessert because at the end of the meal they will give a candy box.

I've only had my one experience eating there. Usually I'll give a place another go as I know all too well everyone has bad nights or kinks to work out. I've just read many all over the place reviews like in the link posted. It's kept me from going back when I have so many other options.

I got a blue rare filet the time I went and was pretty much heaven. The apps were good as well.

Love to have the tartare though.

Took the wife a while back and had an exceptional experience. She had a steak that she really enjoyed, I tried to talk her our of a steak but had no luck. We started with the charcuterie board that blew us away. Hogshead cheese was some of the best I've had. Had the Death by Gumbo after that, it was the highlight of my meal. There may be some haters in this thread but do not leave without getting it. Boudin stuffed quail in a bowl that the server will pour the most flavorful, rich, and velvety gumbo base over the top of. Pretty sure I licked the bowl. There is some serious culinary skill to make that dish. I had the Coq au Vin as my entrée. Also delicious. I knew one of the chefs there and told me to request a tour of the place so we got to walk through the entire restaurant front and back. Our server actually was our tour guide and knew I was in the restaurant business. I got to go into their coolers and walk the line. I would have eaten my dinner on their floors it was so clean. Even got to hold a $30,000 bottle of Ch. Rothschild in the wine cellar. I was feeling pretty special until I was later told that they will do that for most people if you ask. I would recommend asking.

Enjoy the experience. Please report back.
