Yeah. I wanted bigger speakers. I had to get some that were the same height as our TV console or it wasn't happening.

I got my obnoxiously large sub though.

My dog decided to use my last towers as a tree so that coupled with the want for a built in bookshelf has me using some in-wall speakers that ill mount in the cabinet and using matching in-ceiling speakers for the rear (def tec UIW series). I was going to go with dual Cap2400s but I think I may drop down to dual FV15HP's. I am scared tho my room is going to be a null nightmare

I'm in the middle of a rework on my system but I'll try to get some picks up of the racks.

I'm moving right now. But I am hoping to have it set back up by Sunday so you can laugh at my high-middle end/low-high end speakers being driven by a plane Sony receiver.

I'm looking to upgrade amps in the near future. Right now, I'm thinking I'll grab an optical--> stereo DAC, run it through the receiver as a pre (has analog I/o) and then grab a Dayton Audio APA150 (class AB 75w per channel into two 8ohm channels). The idea is not that the receiver is a great preamp but that it still allows remote control of volume. Anyone think that:
1) you can get better sound sub-$200 (talking about upgrade price, of course)

2) it would not be worth $200 in upgrades and I should wait until I can afford something higher-end used (from Audiogon)?

What's the impedance rating on your speakers?

B&W 803 Matrix Series 1 are the speakers. 8ohm, 90dB sensitivity. I believe they're rated up to 200w at 8ohms, but they may be 250.

saw this thread, scanned my phone for pics of my setup, only have this bad low-light pic from a few months ago

-- Panasonic 65VT60
-- Yamaha Aventage A-820
-- 3 x Chase Home Theater PRO-10 (woofer on center has since been replaced with a Delta Eminence 10-A turning the PRO-10 into a SHO-10) -- 97dB sensitivity
-- 2 x Mirage OMD-5 in the rears
-- 1 Outlaw LFM-1EX Sub
-- 1 BIC v1220 Sub (located in diagonal corner away from Outlaw, helps even out the room response)

I think the budget solution is fine but I also think those speakers would open up more with more power.

I'm actually really considering a pair of APA-150s and running them in mono, feeding 150w into each. I figured I would start with a single one, though, and that seems to be the most power in an A/AB amp I can find in any sort of reasonable (to me at this point in my life) price range. I know the resale on these is nada, but I don't mind that so much. I figure they'll eventually be given away or, should I ever have "dr money," these will become my rears and, staying in the 8-series Matrix line, I'll grab the matching center and hopefully a pair of 802m as my new mains, which are 6-ohm and a bit less sensitive for an outdated, yet particularly decent sound-per-dollar 5.0 system (I'm sure I'll find a sub to go with it at some point).

Thanks for your help

When you hit Dr money get Bryston monoblocks. Awesome amps with the best warranty in the business.

About 21x20x12 ceilings non dedicated room with 2 big arced openings leading to foyer/dining area and the other to the kitchen with wall to wall hard reflective surfaces . Seating area not in the middle but about 3/4th back from the front wall. I could probably use the umpf of the Caps but they are twice the price. If I can get a good freq response from the Rythmiks I think it will be good enough with some shakers on the sofa. Was also eying up the new HSU VTF-15H MK2s but they just started shipping. Ruled out the SVS ultras based on looking at numbers on the data-bass site.

The openings will help a lot. That 21 X 20 though. Ughh. If it was a dedicated room you'd be SOL on the nulls without multiple subs. Hello standing waves.

Exactly....I dont understand it all but I know square rooms are not good. It is what it is tho room size on the plans...in order to change it enough would mess up to much of the rest of the layout. I will have 2 subs but they are only destine for the front wall.

Always thought the heat from a fireplace might harm a TV, though it seems everyone mounts it there.

Cnet says Don't mount TV above a fireplace

CNET is full of shite. I've mounted many flatscreens above fireplaces. There's generally a mantle to deflect direct heat and the heat that does get there isn't hot by the time it gets to that level from my experience. I've never had a problem with this application.

Good to hear. I've never done it but, once again, see it all the time.
