Whatcha got? The Franklin? Maurepas? Oxalis? Booty's? Headed down there for a few days around New Year's and I'd like to give one of them a try.

Maurepas seems to have declined BUT still worth trying, IMO.

Bootys good for small plates and cocktails

Mariza, far and away is the best I've had. I like Bacchanal if that counts. never really been impressed by Booty's. Maurepas has gone down in quality and up in price, although the cocktails are still fantastic.

The Franklin

Only place I've eaten, but goddamn was it good.

DO NOT pass up the oxtail and sweetbreads entree.

Bump for help. Headed down there Friday evening and looking for something in the St. Claude area.

Well all of those places are just a few blocks from St. Claude.

If it must be specifically on St. Claude, Arabella Casa Di Pasta is pretty good for very casual house made pasta.

I wasn't too impressed with Red's Chinese.

Haven't tried Franklin or Oxalis so I can't speak to those two.

Mariza is 1st rate and a must try. Maurepas and Booty's are nice, but I wouldnt' waste a dinner at either placee.

I would definitely make my way over to Bacchanal's for a drink and possibly some music.

Frick I just noticed this was for NYE.

Did you try the Kung Pao Pastrami?

As for the OP: Mariza.

He updated it just two posts back asking for places near St. Claude.

All of the places listed are within 2 minutes of St. Claude.

Brah, you really must get to The Franklin. I like that place a lot.

No. I wanted that but my wife didn't, and we are sharers (by her decree).

I don't think we ordered that great. I ordered a cocktail that had ginger in it and the ginger was RIDICULOUSLY overpowering. I mean, I expected a hint and it was a slam to the tastebuds.

And then everything we ordered was ridiculously salty. Like...GODDAMN ALL THIS SODIUM MIGHT KILL ME ON THE SPOT.

The best thing we had was the buffalo chicken feet, which was really tasty.

I'm going to give it another shot eventually. They might have just fricked up the salt content.

Would love to go to some of these places but I worry about the Marigny and Bywater at night.

Meh. Like anywhere, else, don't be stupid. Over the past 6 months I've spent more time there than ever before, and much of that involves wandering around in the wee hours of the morning hopping from bar to bar. The Bywater has changed a lot from what it used to be, and while there are certainly areas I wouldn't encourage a woman (or man, for that matter) to wander around alone, many of the areas are quite safe. Or at least I've never felt uncomfortable.

Mariza is tops in the neighborhood. I really enjoyed The Franklin both visits. I don't care for Bacchanal, but that's completely personal preference. Many love it.
