I simply don't understand the awe for Hunter. He is not a good pass rusher (4.5 career sacks in three years) and only recently became a good run stopper. Not trying to crush the guy because he has improved from year to year. However, the production just isn't there for him to be labeled "elite" or similar. Hopefully, 2015 will be the year he makes the jump.

I don't think he would last until the 5th Rd this year. 6'6, 240, with that wingspan is great news for NFL scouts. I do hope he returns for 2015.

At 240 the guy will be killed as a d end in the nfl and his pass rushing has left some desired for the Nfl. He needs another year IMO but he is a terrific college d end for our system

No doubt; he leaves a lot of $ on the table if he comes out...

Correct, the difference between the 5th round and a top ten pick is millions. However, doubt he would last until the 5th this year, and its tough to say he jumps to a top 10 pick next year. Hope he makes that jump tho

The difference between 5th round and top of the 2nd round is MILLIONS! He doesn't need to be a top 10 pick to make a huge chunk of change more.

2014 top of 2nd 5.55 mill contract 2.35 mill bonus
2014 top of 5th 2.51 mill contract 215k bonus

Hell, just going from top of the 3rd to top of the 2nd would make him a lot more upfront money plus millions more over the course of that contract.

2014 top of 3rd 3.19 mill contract 703k bonus

IMO, he's a possible 3rd rounder. Why not come back and try to make a couple mill upfront? He needs to get stronger and create a pass rush.

If he can quadruple his sack total he can be a high pick

I was thinking the same thing. With his wingspan, athleticism, height, all he would need is about 6.5 sacks next year. I've seen several DEs come back their senior year after pedestrian sack numbers, and quadruple and sometimes have 6-10 times the sack totals.

Orchard, Ringo, Oakman are prime examples and all are scouted to go in the top 2 rounds.

Orchard 3.0 to 17.5
Ringo 1.0 to 10.5
Oakman 2.0 to 10.0
Hunter 1.5 to ???

Agreed. The only way Hunter is going to radically improve his position is to demonstrate that he can gain good weight. He doesn't have Mingo's speed, so he needs to be able to hold his own against the monsters who play OT in the NFL.

Maybe Hunter can be the defensive version of La'el Collins--i.e., improve his draft status by staying at LSU for his senior season.

I recall it was reported he had less than 10% body fat, but a few more pounds of additional muscle (he's got a lot already) would not hurt.

Also, I think he could better himself by staying another year and perhaps be a first round draft pick.

I hope Danielle will get some good advice.

He def. has more than 10% body fat, 10% is really not that much especially with his genetics but at 6'6 240 hes more like 6-7% which is insane!

Look up dontari Poe

Dude had like 2 career sacks against shite competition but had unreal measurables and went too 10.

And he's a beast in the NFL.

ETA I'm not saying that Hunter has those measurables, just that NFL scouts don't rank defensive players by their sack totals

He's going to be an OLB in the NFL.

Dontari Poe was a big space eating nose tackle, he wasn't supposed to have sacks. Hunter is a tall thin pass rushing DE who has 1.5 sacks. That's a problem.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. needs to show he can beat blocks and get to the quarterback or at least be disruptive like Mingo.

You don't need a body of work to get drafted. James Wright proved that last year.
