It was probably an advantage to have the occasional homosexual in your group back in pre-historic times. They aren't competing with the male yet possess physical strength and protection for the group.

I think only Pat Robertson would be qualified to answer this question truthtfully. I do however, think that celebrity talking heads are generally smart people who know what sells and know what their core audience wants to or expects to hear and it is really easy to play a part and give them what they want.
Now what percentage of what a talking head says is genuine and what precentage is pandering,- I think it would depend on the individual talking head. But I do believe the pandering happens across the board to a certain degree.

You have to be Costanza-like and truly believe it in the moment you say it. It's like John Kerry talking about his chopper being forced down in AF because of enemy fire, or Hillary saying she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary. They truly believe what they say when they say it.
There's a lot of money to be made if you become a lightning rod. Pat Robertson, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, et al are all cut from the same cloth. They all go to sleep at night clucking about how stupid their followers are.
