To the servers in this thread.
Whats the biggest tip you ever received?

Wanna know what's really fricked up? The servers who dislike waiting on black people the most aren't white, they're black. They deal with it like everybody else, but get pissed off because they see it as ensuring they get shitty service when they go out to eat. I used to work with an older black woman who would tell the hostesses don't seat her with any black women because they didn't tip and she didn't have time for them to be complaining and sending back food.

I tip wayyyyy too much for service like that haha
I have been known to request managers to brag about employees that were great. I have never worked the service industry, but I have bleeding heart empathy for people that wait on me in any capacity. Its weird.

I worked at L'Auberge for 9 months. So a few hundred dollars
Not normal circumstances though. In a casino, someone is literally playing with their money. Throwing it away, especially when winning big, doesn't register in their minds like in a restaurant.

Jones to a T. He has never done it, and would never do it, but he tips better than me and I'm a 30%-40% tipper depending on the price.

One time at a steakhouse in Nashville the chef went table to table to talk and ask how the food was. I love it when that happens. Anyways, I told him it was wonderful and how we had already made reservations for when my parents came in town. He gave us the meal for free for being so kind. It was like $150.
I promptly went on every review site on google and bragged about it and have always told my friends/family to go there.

Kindness and good service goes a LONG way.

Agreed. Plus, the point of me going to a restaurant or bar is for enjoyment. I dont go there to make a scene or get all worked up. Why focus on the negatives and ruin my good time just because the waiter made a simple mistake or is having a rough day?
If its bad enough I just put it in the BWW category and dont return.

If that was the case you would blame the white server for it or all of the black people that came in before and didn't tip? That is a serious question....

Well yeah we all know the manager as well so he knows how we feel about the wait staff. They all give great service, make great tips.
Although she did complain to me the other day when a group of , you saw it posted already, old women came in there for like two hours for lunch and tipped nothing to any of them.

Why we haven't done away with this antiquated system of tipping servers I'll never know. And I'm a 30-35% guy, middle aged and white as white bread.

A lot of black people on this board like to play the victim and blame Whitey. It's easier than looking at the problems in their own community. It's never their fault.
Not saying bigpete is one, but the overwhelming majority feel that way.
And I've noticed the behavior other have talked about. They complain about the food until they either get it free or get an entire new entree for free. Such bullshite.

Why? I feel like its more rude to leave everything spread across the table and make them reach infront of you to pick up every single thing.

I agree, but as long as its there I will tip like you do.
I feel like they should just earn normal wages without tips, but I guess the incentive to give good service is to get good tips.
I don't know actually, I'm conflicted as I type this.
Posted on 12/18/14 at 10:13 am to nes2010
I think it really depends on the place. At an upscale place I would really discourage doing it. Just not classy.

Well until all restaurants start paying them a more full wage, they kind of need tips.

Wow.
We let our server create a 14-course meal for us at Uchi in Houston. Bill was ~$248. She gave us $150 in gift cards and wrote down her name and gave us her general schedule.
I have told EVERYONE about her and how amazing the meal was, and we already have plans to go back to Houston and dine there again with her as our server.

I think it let's the restaurants off the hook. If they had to pay their servers minimum wage they may pay more attention to how they are handling their customers.

If you polled all the black servers in America, I PROMISE the majority would agree.
