Being in the middle of the normal range doesn't mean you're bf% is lean.
I bet the normal person, who would typically fall in the middle of the normal range, would still have a bf% of 15-20%.

How many people do you think lift weights? How many people do you think lift often enough, heavy enough, etc to actually have enough muscle to throw off the BMI charts that badly? The answer is probably less than 5% of the general population. Just because you played middle linebacker your sophomore year of high school in 1992 doesn't mean there's muscle under all that fat.
