If someone had pulled that stunt on the L (here in Chicago) on one of the early morning lines that are super-busy (Red, Brown, Purple, Blue), then they'd have their shite shoved in their face, no matter white, black, brown, blue, or green.
This is the main Northeast artery train line. Between New Brunswick (Rutgers) and NYC it is very crowded. There is no way she was so lost in her music that she did not notice this.

I doubt she gets sympathy from anyone who lives anywhere near NYC.

It's bothersome. I wish some people would stop disregarding other peoples perspectives as well

Being rude isn't racist. Both of these people were rude, but nothing about it makes them racist.

YOU had your headphones in, and call someone racist because you couldn't hear them when they tried to get your attention? What the frick.

I wonder if the white guy has his own blog somewhere where he's ranting about the social impoliteness of people always wearing headphones in public and ignoring their fellow man

motherfricking headphone privilege

I had this happen to me on a flight recently where someone was in my window seat with headphones on, ignoring the world staring out the window. The flight was in a hurry and they were rushing people to sit and the flight attendant told me to "Have a seat in the middle so we can take off".

This chick thinks that him telling her to listen is about "White Privilege" is so self righteous. Its about general civility and courtesy. Mass transit and travel isnt an enjoyable process, so why not take the fricking head phones off until you get moving. Why is it necessary to just zone out an ignore the world? Its rude.

This isn't a case of racism. I have seen valid cases of racism from all colors of people and this isn't one of them. Racism will sadly always exist and you will always be able to find examples of it. This lady seems to be just as much a racist as the person she is complaining on, even if he is one. He just sounds like a ornery old man.

This woman has really interesting perspective.

"I am not hear to make white people feel comfortable"

that comment alone is racist in tone

If a white person said "I am not here to make Black people feel comfortable" wow, all hell would forthcoming.

The bottom line is, I am glad I don't live in NY and deal with crowded transportation.

Zig Ziglar's "who is kicking your cat? " comes to mind.

Why does it always have to be about race? Some people are just grumpy and selfish, beat up, tired, late etc..

And this woman is hogging up space with her headphones on

"Since you didn't reply to me, I moved your stuff for you, so you can just stay in la la land"

Where is my thank you?

What scares me most about this article is that she isn't just some SJW with a Twitter account. She is a fricking professor at a large university making lots of money.

She holds a position of "expert." No matter the field, you would expect experts to utilize logic in their everyday lives, but this person has none. Zilch. Even typed in the article that she was taking up two seats on a full train with her fricking headphones on. And it's the white guy who was in the wrong.

It seems like his two options, given the fact she couldn't hear him, were to either touch her or her bag. In either case, she would have written this article regarding white entitlement. Had he tapped her, this would have been an article about him violating her.

What she doesn't address is why she thinks she is entitled to two seats.

She's being an inconsiderate bitch on a crowded train. She's not entitled to a seat for which she did not pay. She seems quite pissed off about that.

Buoyed by his own entitlement, his own sense of white male somebodiness, this passenger never even considered that he might simply try harder to get my attention before putting his hands on my stuff.

This comment about white people oozes both stupidity and hatred.
