Friend of mine went hunting this am. He shot an 8 point and got out of his stand to find it. Later went back to stand to get his gear. While climbing he fell and broke his wrist. Tried to climb back up and fell again this time broke his other wrist and ankle. Had to airlift him to OLOL. Having surgery on one wrist and ankle now.

Be careful out there!

I'm not a hunter so I don't know, do you use safety belt while climbing or only when sitting?

From the info, he must have been in a ladder or box stand. Why would he use a climber to go down and leave his stuff up in the tree?

Obviously this guy should wear one at all times

But some do either or , or both.

Drinking and climbing don't mix.

Yep, someone else could get that stuff.

Unless of course he left his keys in the stand.

I've left bow hangers in enough trees to build a house. I think about it after I have my climber on my back and have walked a couple hundred yards away. I always say, "3 for $16 on Amazon or eBay" and keep on walking.

stories like this are an example on why I am a terrible person. While I do have compassion. All I can think of is how funny this story is going to be for decades. Seriously. His pain will go away, but this story will remain forever.

I haven't even thought about the functional limitations of having both hands casted up. That is like 6 weeks no fap. I would have to go back to 1981 to remember that feeling.

Buddy of mine is spine surgeon, he was at my camp last weekend said he had seen three broken backs or necks that week from guys falling out of deer stands. I gave up climbing years ago, be safe out there

A friend of mine is a high risk OB?GYN. Had carpal tunnel syndrome and decided to get both wrist worked on at the same time.

It occurred to me to ask how he wiped his arse. His wife obliged him. Sucks to be her, I guess maybe not, since this is payback for all the years of her not having to work outside of the home.
