Just FYI Le Freak isn't really a DIPA, and Backwoods Bastard isn't a stout.

Yeah I realized after I had hit submit that I put Backwoods bastard with the stouts. I was thinking of barrel aged stouts when it is a barrel aged scotch ale I think? Isnt it their barrel aged version of dirty bastard?

I thought Le Freak was a DIPA or at least I thought that was what it said on the bottle. Is Dogfish 90 minute a DIPA?

Also has anyone ever tried Dogfish Head 120 minute?

Not answering the question

People used to go nuts for DFA, and it was considered great. Then people got their hands on much better stuff.

It is regarded by many as too malty and not nearly hoppy enough.

At least that's what I got out of the cartoon based on my knowledge of DFA.

I like the fact that is is malty. I am still trying Ipa's and enjoy them but in moderation. I find most just taste too piney to drink more than one. I like that the 90 minute has the malt that come out at the end to balance out the hoppiness. It certainly tastes way different then other IPA's I have had. Another IPA I like is Terrapin Hi five because it is seems much milder than others.

It's pale ale, as every single IPA is a pale ale. But according to BJCP, it is an IPA. At least by IBU standards. Pale ales top out at 40 IBU's i believe.

Session ipa- carton boat
Ipa- kane head high
Dipa- heady

Thats all that matters.

And LL has interrupted the cartoon wrong. There was a time when 90 minute was considered a hoppy beer, most of yall were probably still in diapers then. Not kim and icansee though, those dudes are old.

I thought there was some divide currently between people who love it and people who think it's malty af.

I would venture to say that most people on this board who considers themselves to be "hopheads" probably discovered hoppy beers by drinking a mild IPA or APA and gradually worked there way up the chain to DIPAs and what we call "hop bombs". These beers are considered to be gateway beers for IPAs.

One that did the trick for a lot of people was Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

That may be true on tigerdroppings, but thats not what the cartoon is about. Hence the last line, 'we've come a long way.'
