Sounds like the deal is done. Co-coordinators always seems to work out.

Strong/Mattison wasn't too bad at Florida, right?

The only way I could see this working is if one calls the plays and provides the gameplan while the other runs practices

Gotcha. I thought Foster was going to be the DC?

Makes sense. Mattison is probably going to retire very soon and it is unclear how much of the defense was really Durkin or Muschamp. Think it would be a great combo, really like both of those guys.

Exactly. I would be OK with this combo if this is the route we decide to go.

So would the rest of the SEC.

OP, do you have a source? I have seen a few rumors, but this doesn't seem to be any further along than Foster to A&M. It is always harder to close deals the more parties you try to corral.

Note that Mattison was a DL coach at A&M during the wrecking crew years.

Mattison is DC
Durkin is DC in waiting
Give them CO-DC title for contract purposes

I dont think that was ever a serious thing. Just more aggy rumor like Muschamp who never seemed to consider A&M either.

A lot of us never took the Muschamp rumor seriously. So these two could actually know how to run a defense?

He had discussions with A&M, I'm not sure what "rumors" there were beyond that.

There is a good chance Durkin will be the DC and Mattison will be a position coach....Obviously he'd have a lot of say in things, but there would be no power struggle. Allegedly Durkin is the one that pushed to bring Mattison in on his staff if he were hired.

Frankly, if Muschamp/Foster aren't possible, there really aren't any can't miss candidates. This is as ok of a bet to work as any, but I'm disappointed (if/when it becomes official) that Foster was not willing to make the jump.
