Some evidence out there but nothing substantial.

Seems highly unlikely.

The case is so bizarre. So many suspects with good circumstantial cases against them, yet nothing to definitively identify the killer.

There is strong circumstantial evidence pointing to about 4 people. There was a partial DNA "fingerprint" recovered from one of his letters. With more letters surfacing from old files, his DNA must be mapped by now.

Exclusion would be easy.
