Overall, I didn't like all of the one on one battles between people that took place off by themselves.

There were parts of the love-story that seemed like a daytime soap had just been substituted into the movie.

The pacing of the movie seemed erratic. I felt like certain points the characters would make everything seem so urgent and then nothing would happen for forever. Or slower scenes would go into a battle and then back to nothing after showing the battle for a little bit.

My specific complaints,
Hated how Thorin rediscovered himself.

Hated how this band of a couple hundred men with pitch forks is able to hold off this massive and well armed orc army the entire movie. (It was like they took the same type of people who are easily getting killed in Helms Deep and make them super humans.)

Disliked the ending which seemed to drag on forever.

Disliked the fact that the creepy henchman guy was allowed to stick around the entire movie and just crack jokes the entire time.

Overall I was disappointed in the movie but really wasn't expecting much because I haven't liked any of The Hobbit movies really.

Time to go watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy to get the Hobbit out of my mind.
I agree with most of this. Especially the part about not expecting much. The stare downs in that movie pissed me off royally. I mean, how many times can you zoom into someone's face during a battle and it still be exciting?

Regarding the massive amounts of CGI: Maybe they should have just made the entire trilogy animated. That way the cartoonish stuff would have been more acceptable. Legolas was turning into Neo there at the end.

Just got out of the movie.

Agreed on the Thoren coming back to reality. Thought it was stupid.

I felt the emotional moments felt kind of flat to me

The battle was okay but when Thoren died the battle just ended all of a sudden?

That's disappointing. It almost makes me angry that this is even a trilogy

Should have just been two movies, both 3 hours a piece and easily been just as good as LOTR, but now they're barely better than the Star Wars prequels

Just watched it. It was entertaining and ended the story where I expected, with nice allusions to the LOTR.

Should have been two movies.

Did anyone else notice there were scenes in the trailers that weren't in the movie?

Like the wolves chasing them down the frozen river for example.

I saw it today in IMAX and I enjoyed it. I thought it was cool to finally see some dwarfs in a big battle seen.

Just got home from watching. Thought it was by far the worst of any of the 6. Way to hokie or over the top with the animation fight scenes and just not believable actions. Some was down right stupid.

I enjoyed a lot of the movie and just have to take the rest for what it is or has become. Very mixed feelings.

They look cartoonist and fake. Would prefer a real actor with makeup.

Needed more smaug, less legolas doing over the top stunts, lots of predictable scene endings,

It didn't make me want to watch them all again in order. Which socks.

not in 24fps

48fps and 3D absolutely killed these movies.

And making it a trilogy.

Just saw it in IMAX 3D.

MAJOR SPOILERS Ahead

Words cannot adequately express how much I enjoyed this movie. I am a big fantasy genre nerd - books and movies - especially Lord of the Rings. This hit all of my fantasy sweet spots: the epic last stand (multiple times), the epic charge of few against many, the character transformation, the self sacrifice, and the awesome quotes. The battle scenes were amazing.

My favorite part is when Thorin finally finds himself again, walks out of the deep of Erebor toward his kin with the light at his back, and asks his men to follow him one last time. Then, just as the last of Dain's men are set up for their last stand at the gates of Erebor, Bombur plays that awesome sound on that crazy horn, the statue crashes through the gates, and Thorin streams out with his crew. He has charges past Dain's men into the orcs. From afar, Bilbo sees it with Gandalf and says, "The Dwarves are rallying!" Gandalf responds in only the way Ian McKellan can, "They rally to their king." I basically had a boner the rest of the movie from that point.

My second favorite scene is all of Dol Goldur. Seeing Galadriel, the oldest and most powerful elf in all of Middle Earth, niece to the most powerful elf to have ever lived (Feanor, creator of the Silmarils and the Palantir), silently stream through Dol Goldur and easily dispatch that badass-looking orc to saved Gandalf. Then, as Sauron reveals himself to her and the Nazgul surround her, out come Saurumon and Elrond. With ease they dispatch the Ringwraiths like only Aragorn could, but Sauron is there to bring them right back. Finally, having gathered her strength, Galadriel lets loose her full power only hinted at in Lothlorien when offered the ring by Frodo in Fellowship of the Ring. She destroys the 9 and banishes Sauron from Dol Goldur, setting him back 60 years until the events of Lord of the Rings. I was grinning from ear to ear throughout this entire scene.

There were many other scenes, such as Dain immediately responding to the sight of orcs, leading his dwarves away from the elves and men toward the orcs and yelling, "The hordes of hell are streaming out! Will you fight, you sons of Durin!" or something close to that. Dain was awesome all around. Billy Connelly was a great choice.

I only have 3 complaints in decreasing order of significance:

1. It was too short! I needed another hour at least. I wanted to see Dale and Erebor rebuilt. I wanted to see Bilbo stop in Rivendell on the way back. I wanted to see him stop at the troll cave to get that chest of gold we see him carrying at the end.

2. The love story between Tauriel and Fili or Kili (I can't remember which is which) was always a thorn in my side. It didn't like it in the last movie and didn't like it here. I hate when fantasy/action movies try to force a love story. I am not watching this for any kind of love story. But this did not ruin the movie in any way.

3. Alfred was basically Jar Jar Binks terrible. I really could have done without him. He was a poor man's wormtongue and it was totally ridiculous that Bard not only allowed him to live but kept giving him responsibility. Again, this did not ruin the movie. I just could have done without it.

Otherwise, this movie was fantastic. I am so very glad I will be seeing it two more times in the theater.

This was a big complaint with Lord of the Rings too. I don't understand it. I loved watching him do those things. This is fantasy after all.
