I recently began work for a local business in between school semesters and the boss told me that we are not allowed to wear sunglasses at any point in the day.

Now this job calls for me to be outside the entire day with very little shade in the work area. He said they want customers to be able to make eye contact with us and offered me a hat with the company logo instead of wearing any type of shades.

Is there any way this is an OSHA violation? I'm literally in the sun 8 hours a day with only a hat for protection.

Doubtful it's OSHA.

Tell that bitch you need corrective lenses, get transitions or indoor/outdoor glasses.

Nope. To the best of my knowledge OSHA has no regs about exposure to sunlight.

Humans were outside for millions of years without sunglasses. You'll live.

Eta: maybe not millions, but you get the idea

If your doctor or eye doctor says that it would be bad on your eyes, then you would probably have some more options.

Not an OSHA policy, if it's a company policy do one of two things.
1. Quit bitching and just do your job.
2. Get a job somewhere else, no one is forcing you to work there

Not an OSHA violation that I have ever heard of.

My advice since it is just a temporary job like you said, just keep your mouth shut and don't complian to boss about it. Never know if/when you might need him in the future for a recommendation or other business.

Not bitching is a seriously good quality to have. Your eyes will be fine temporarily, and they'll adjust

Ask him if you can wear them but take them off when you have to interact with a customer.
