Last time I was on this board, which was like last week, 99% of the board was in agreement Tyreke was the problem with this team

He was, in fact in one of my threads I said if Tyreke didn't get his shite together this team wouldn't make the playoffs. But he's started getting his shite together. In about a week's time he improved his projected Win Shares from 1.4 to 2.3 and rising. This is the longest stretch of games where I've seen him in pass first mode. If he's finally getting it he's a keeper. If he starts relapsing into a hero baller, he should have plenty of opportunity to pad his stats and raise his trade value between now and the deadline.

quote:

Now is the perfect time to trade him, before he starts bricking those layups again.

His layup bricking is about shot selection, not skill. It also probably helps that he's playing SG rather than SF with Gordon out and has a smaller defender on him in the last few weeks. Gyno outlined the difference in November Tyreke and December Tyreke, Gordon went out on November 22nd. If Good Tyreke is the new normal, why on earth would you want to trade him? We should have a pretty good idea by the deadline which Tyreke we have, and the Tyreke we've seen in December is an All Star caliber guard that can win games for you.

His layup percentage was like EG's jumper % to start the season: too awful to maintain over a season. He's making his drive layups over the past 5 or so games. Makes a huge difference. I knew he would improve that, but I have no faith in his ever being better than a subpar defender. Jrue, AD, and Asik can obviously play defense. We need a legit wing defender to play alongside Reke, allowing him to defend the worst offensive player between the 1,2, and 3.

I completely agree with this. Gordon was actually a really good perimeter defender before he went down.

Also, I really really really hope Reke is realizing the benefits of sharing the ball right now. He can take this team to the next level if he is playing at this Semi- all star level.

Evans plays better when AD or Anderson isn't in the lineup dating back to last season

I see that with Davis, but I disagree on Anderson. To me, Evans struggled because Monty did what he's done with Anderson this year- left alone to play with scrubs.

With Anderson:

408 MP last year a 115 ORating and 109 DRating. eFG @ 53%.

420 MP this season a 116 ORating and 109 DRating. 52% eFG.

So, the offense is really good, but the defense is really bad. About what I'd expect. I think the problem is that we need Tyreke on the first unit with Gordon out and Anderson is coming in for Asik, so their minutes together are naturally limited a bit.

The wonky rotations will just have to work.

Yeah. The big thing to me is the 6 point differential. That's pretty good for 800 minutes, regardless of defensive limitations.

It would be nice, if/when Gordon returns, if Monty staggered the guards more. Anderson can't do it alone. The bench has been better, but I don't see it ever being a consistent strong point.

I'd like to see a good look at the Holiday/Cunningham/Anderson trio anchoring the bench.

Before Gordon got hurt he was starting to stagger Gordon with the 2nd unit. I still think Tyreke should get the stagger, but the bench unit needs someone besides Ryno to carry them.

No way Monty wastes his security blanket defender on bench minutes. Holiday is staying with the starters.

I agree that Monty finally started staggering some. Way too late considering he had a year to think about it. Also agree that Monty will not use Holiday in that role. To be clear, I'm not advocating starting holiday on the bench; just pull him earlier in the first so you can bring him back to start the 2nd. Let Rivers or even Smith go balls to the wall v pgs while Evans runs the offense

To me, it makes some sense to see what you can get away with when Asik/Davis are your backline defenders. The starters are fine, the bench gets killed on a regular basis. No Gordon makes it harder, but it would be nice to see the coaches try something different.

Is it just me or has Asik looked even more lethargic than usual the last few games? His hustle is gone. I wonder if his back is still hurting him.

He looked like he was really laboring last night. he was the last guy up the floor on every play.

Noticed this the last few games. He just looks exhausted out there, which is weird because he plays less than 30 mins a night.

Did get a few blocks as a result of not getting back on offense though

true the guy sitting next to me was bitching about Asik and made the statement "I don't even know why we have him out there" the second he said that Asik stuffed the frick out of one of the burkes

Lol literally same thing happened near me last night. After fumbling what seemed to be his 4th or 5th under the basket dish from Reke these two guys next to me where fuming that he was out there. In the middle of their bitching Asik told someone to get that weak shite outta here.

All that said, while I love that reke was passing under the rim, why the frick did he keep feeding asik? Literally 4 out of the first 5 offensive possessions went to him under the basket and he just could not catch the ball for shite

Or he loses it on the way up. Wes dawg gets on him for bringing the ball down low but alot of Rekes passes are at his knees

I'm glad I know now this entire franchise is willing to chain itself to Tyreke's sinking ship, because I can stop paying attention to them now. No way AD stays here to keep playing with Tyreke. Just like I've done with Les Miles at LSU, I'll start watching Pels games again once Evans is gone.

Asik is averaging the same RPG in the last week vs his season average but in 2 less MPG. Blocks are the same, too.

I'm glad it's not showing up in the stats, but I haven't seen him not wanting to go to the other end of the court before. He's also been standing around a lot more than I remember early on. I know he's not the type to rebound out of his area much anyway, but it just seems like the effort level for anything that requires movement is way down even by his normal offensive linemanesque standards. I'm not complaining about his effort, more concerned about a lingering injury.
