What is the difference between retail and bar prices for a bottle in LA? I ask because there is no difference in Oregon, although some places charge you a "cappage fee" if you drink it on site. Most bars/taprooms charge the same as the groceries/liquor stores for a bottle of craft beer.

I thought that was pretty cool, although I hadn't really checked it out in other states. This is mainly due to the fact that I wasn't really treading in maven territory until I got to Portland...

Well, that's certainly one example that I provided. There's always a mark up on your bigger bottles, I find that with The Bruery bottles I've purchased that mark up has been in the $10 range. I remember ft and I split a bottle of Barrel Aged Old Raspy at Bulldog one night and it was $40 -- I'm not sure what that retails for regularly, honestly.

What they told me at WoB was that if you bought it "retail" it was intended for off-site consumption. So I'm not sure if that would mean I could buy it with a few extra dollars tacked on as the fee you're referencing for on-site consumption.

In Portland, taprooms double as bottleshops. They have coolers in the common areas, not behind the bar, so you can help yourself. The prices are as good as any other retailer. Some places charge cappage fees. Others only charge for beers below a certain amount - one place has a $3 minimum. If you buy a $1.50 beer and carry it out the door, no problem. If you buy a $1.50 beer and drink it on site, it costs $3. If you buy a $10 beer for onsite, there is no additional charge because the beer costs more than the $3 minimum.

I thought it sounded like it was...

I had never seen it like that any where else, but craft beer is changing all the time. I think it is a matter of time before the laws are relaxed and breweries are allowed to distribute beer without the shackles.

I'm also not a fan of paying $7 for a pint of local IPA.
I'm going to check the place out but my first visit may be my l last of they are charging those kinds of prices.

Welcome back Stink!

Still at the office, but headed home soon for FBD. This is a busy time of year for me. At least I got released from jury duty. That would really have sucked had they picked me.
