Is Amazon or Netflix better?

for pure content, Netflix
but with Amazon, you get other benefits with prime, plus the ability to rent new releases

The simple answer is get both.
Netflix has more content but Amazon does have some exclusive content.
With Prime you get the next day shipping benefit.
Both are good. The Prime interface and search sucks. Tons of 1 click buy option buttons all over the place and if you have dual monitors, it is easy to accidentally buy something when clicking from screen to screen. They might have fixed this, but I am not sure. I do a better job of looking when I click over now.

I use Amazon mostly for new release rentals. Occasionally I'll see a movie or show on Prime that I want to watch but I generally use Netflix more for shows and Amazon for movies.

I watch both but Netflix a little more. Amazon has HBO shows if that's important to you. It seems new releases come out on both around the same time.

If this is based on content only and the other prime benefits like shipping don't matter, NetFlix. The catalogs are comparable enough but NetFlix's superior interface puts it over the top. It's just easier to find something to watch and it's also easier to binge a TV series.

Netflix is better other than Amazon having the HBO catalogue.

Same here.
Amazon is only good if you have Prime and I wouldn't pay for Prime just to get the instant video. We do almost all of our shopping through Amazon, so it makes sense for us.
Netflix has mostly the same content, minus HBO stuff, but the original series are really good. (Lillyhammer, House of Cards and Marco Polo)

You can share prime with people!! For free!! So find someone willing to share their prime. and I don't mean the same username, it allows you to share your account and gives them the ability to make their own username and login.

I don't know anyone who got Amazon for the media content, but it's a solid bonus.

As most others have said, get both. I watch Netflix more, but Amazon has a lot of HBO stuff and you can rent/buy movies right there online.

You can share amazon...my sister buys it and we use her prime membership and live in different city. I also sign into her prime on my kindle, and download books from the lending library. Then signout and back on with my signin and the books are still there.
I pay for Netflix, cousin has HBO so we get HBOgo, and sister has Prime...we share them all.

My original reply was to someone implying you could share video on different email addresses just like the shipping. Using someone else's password is not the same thing that I was talking about. They have recently added a "Family Library" LINK that lets you share books between accounts, but I haven't seen anything similar for music and video yet.
