Dunno. Thomas Sowell has written extensively about the condition of black neighborhoods pre 60s civil rights and pre Great Society. Among other things he says:
Black babies born out of wedlock was rare.
Drugs were not a problem.
Crime in black neighborhoods was low.
HS graduation rates were higher than today.

The problem is that once dependency on entitlement programs is introduced it is hard to take it away and transition back to a culture of self reliance.

I really wish I could agree with you here. If not overwhelming, then at least a sizable majority exists with the generational entitlement culture mindset.

I would like to see some evidence to the contrary. For instance, people such as yourself making public inroads into whatever power structure exists amongst blacks with a genuine desire to escape the dependency cycle.

The entitlement society has had a negative effect on all racial groups I would argue, not just the minorities. I am fairly certain most of us personally know some whites who are seriously fricked up because of their dependency on the government.

With the poor black community I think the race baiters have an easy opportunity to tap into the resentment of dependency and frame it as a racial issue, instead of an social/economic issue. You are poor and just barely getting by because of discrimination instead of you need to find work and improve your status.

As for Voter ID laws, I'm so white I practically glow in the dark and if I showed up to vote without my ID and was turned away I'd chalk it up to me being an idiot for not bringing it with me instead of me being cheated out of my right to vote. You have to take some responsibility after all.

The BS just gets so damn old. All a black person has to do to be successful is open up a restaurant, cook some really good southern food, and sell it at a fair price.
