I'm talking the crowning achievements of the genre type stuff. I mean the 10-20+ minute sort of songs, the ones with 15 different sections. Crazy stuff going on in it. The epics.

I'll start us out with a few here

Caravan - Nine Feet Underground

Pink Floyd - Echoes

Emerson, Lake, and Palmer - Tarkus

Yes - Close the Edge

Frank Zappa - Inca Roads

Genesis - The Cinema Show

Camel - Lady Fantasy

Feel free to add to the list my MB prog brahs

I forgot two really obvious ones

Genesis - Supper's Ready

and the GOAT:

Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick

I always thought this was better than Close to the Edge, and maybe about the best thing Yes ever did

Yes - And You and I

For real though... that guitar sounds so majestic in the beginning... but Closer to the Edge is a better overall song.

6:15 with the guitar and that fricking synth man. gives me fricking goosebumps every time. then Anderson starts saying weird shite that doesn't make any sense.

Then at 7:15 a like almost reggae beat and Squire killing the bass like always

god damn, so fricking good

I happened to be listening to it, and had just gotten past that part

The best part is my buddy who loves Yes swears that Siberian Khatru is the best song on that album

Pretty badass album to have 3 songs on it and they're all amazing

I just vividly remember that album and headphones. That was the 2003 me where PROG was the only music.

I literally would only listen to songs that were over 5 mins long

YES was my holy grail

That's been me the past 3-4 months. I liked prog but didn't really "get it" until a little earlier this year.

Would you have followed Prog bands around in the 70s over the Dead?

70's live Genesis > 70's live GD

A little bit

Newer metal oriented prog doesn't do it for me as much as the 70's kind of stuff

I'm pretty open to suggestions though. I'm about to listen to that 2112 heady posted above, just because one day I hope to really enjoy Rush's music.
