Do you think they try moving Godchaux or LaCouture to DE starter...

If Valentine is all that everyone says he is? That would give us Bower on one end, and Teuhema can come in as DE on obvious passing situations.

I'm saying this because I think we could maximize experience and talent available if Hunter decides to declare by doing it this way.

I know people will argue a solid rotation of Valentine, LaCouture, Bain, and Godchaux at DT, but I think we can find at least one suitable guy to replace in the rotation.

Another idea is to move Herron back outside.

I thought a couple guys were unhappy and possibly moving on? Or did I dream that up...

There is always talk of this. Sometimes it has legs, sometimes it doesn't. I think Herron would be the ideal switch, but Chief doesn't seem to care for big DE's in the mold of a Spears or Hill type. We could just go ahead with some serious depth at DT. Or implement a lot of 3-4. QT and Valentine could rotate at NT. Lacouture, DG, Herron, and Bower could rotate at the two ends. Sione, Neal, Clarke as the blitzing LB. Couldn't hurt our chances of keeping Hunter as he certainly will be drafted into a 3-4. Not talking an all out switch, just a wrinkle to throw in when we feel like it.

They are too big to play there, maybe put all these guys in to stop the run on first down or obvious short situations but not as a regular defense no way. These guys need to stay and rotate so we have fresh guys in the middle at all times. LSU was always best when we did this and the players like to have guys that can replace them and not lose a thing. Hunter needs to stay another year IMO.

Didn't Herron come in as a DE? He could always move back there as he's supposed to be quite an athletic guy.

I think Godchaux is the disruptive type that they like on the inside.

There was talk of Godchaux being compared to Dorsey. No way we move him

Yea, isn't Herron kind of a tweener? too big for DE and a little undersized as a run stuffer?

No.

Nothing wrong with rotating this many DT's.

Davon Godchaux 6-4 295 so
Travonte Valentine 6-3 300 so
Frank Herron 6-5 285 so
Greg Gilmore 6-4 315 so
Trey Lealaimatafao 6-2 300 so

Christian LaCouture 6-5 300 jr
Quentin Thomas 6-3 295 sr
Maquedius Bain 6-3 310 so
Mickey Johnson 6-0 310 sr

Sure would be nice if four more guys could make an impact....a big impact. A six man rotating DT position. Niiiiiiiice.

If Bain and Gilmore could live up to their blue chip hype for a full season, then LSU could afford to keep Herron at SDE.

sde
Danielle Hunter 6-5 240 sr -------gone
Tashawn Bower 6-5 250 jr
Isaiah Washington 6-4 260 fr

wde
Sione Teuhema 6-3 225 so
Lewis Neal 6-1 240 jr
Deondre Clarke 6-3 255 so
Michael Patterson 6-2 225 jr

no. Godchaux is the next star on the interior. We're fine at DE if hunter returns (which is a good possibility) with he, bower, clark, sione, neal and washington

Lacouture is too slow. Godcheaux will be over 300 by next year but still explosive. They have Bower, deondre clark, should also use Neal, and hopefully Hunter returns.

I don't think there has been anything credible that says Valentine is anything special. I think there has been an assumption made by the masses that assume he is better than what we were seeing early in the year...and that was overblown.

That doesn't mean that Valentine is NOT going to be good...just that everything we've heard is speculation based on nothing.

Good point. And while you won't be popular here for saying that, we all hope you're wrong. Hell, you're and LSU fan and YOU hope you're wrong, too.

But with all this Depth at DT, you'd think the light comes on for at least two more guys; right?

Are you sure all of those listed will be back and none will transfer?

Even so, based on what we've seen so far, don't think we can count on Gilmore and maybe not even Herron to contribute much.

Also, is there a chance LSU looks at George Brown as a possible DE--he did play that position as well as OT in high school?

I understand they need depth on the OL also.

Nope. Someone closer to the program could answer that for you.

I am providing a version of the depth chart. But I can tell you that even if someone transfers, we will still have depth (in a numbers kind of way) at DT.

Again, it sure would be nice if some guys would step up.
