I have heard stories of uber drivers accepting drugs for payment. Is this possible? I've never used them but I thought they charged your card beforehand.

It's not really "payment", they just demand drugs from you. If you don't provide them drugs, they'll usually beat you up or sometimes rape you. It happens on 35-45% of all Uber rides.

Anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

when a driver accepts your request, both of your phones track the trip and when you leave it charges your card that you gave when you signed up. The only way to circumvent that and pay with drugs or whatever would be for the driver to pick you up, enter into his phone that the trip was canceled (so you aren't on the books officially as being picked up), then you pay him whatever.

But...your story still seems like some grandma email chain nonsense.

I don't doubt it. That's just the problem with uber. You are dealing with non professional people off of Craigslist.

If you go around paying for stuff with bunk drugs you are likely to get your arse whipped. You really owe it to yourself to sample any drugs before offering them in a barter.

Nola Uber drivers are starting to piss me off. I get it, you are paid hourly by your company and that sucks because it's not supposed to be like that but I'm not going to tip you cash because that defeats the point of Uber.
