Wasn't the pitch to play OL one of the reasons he soured on the Vols?

Probably not the right route to go on this one.

He doesn't want to play OL. Butch was trying to sell him on that and Jackson was not open to that whatsoever.

Very good DE but I think his potential at LT is even better. He's much bigger than the 245 lbs he's listed as on 247. Could make for a very, very athletic LT in a couple of years if he would consider the move.

Good pick up for you guys anyways

He will be given "every opportunity" to play DL.

Great info. And you make a great point! As I remember Barksdale preferred DL at LSU but made the switch when they convinced him that OL was his better situation for a pro career. If the guy is good enough eventually for the pros, amazing how reluctance disappears when a switch is the only way to get there.

I think the Vols are feeling good about them. They were all over this SEC Rant thread recently. There are some pics of Phillips in a Vols uni on page 2.

Feeling pretty good but as we all know, anything can happen in recruiting.

It has definitely turned into a VOLS/LSU battle. Ole Miss will not be a factor imo.

Really think he could push hard for a start at DE next year if Hunter declares. Should come into the season around 250-260.

Bower on one side and Jackson or Teuhema on the other side.

I think it's the level of competition he plays against. In his film it looked like most of the guys who were blocking him weighed under 200 pounds

Would be a solid pickup for depth reasons alone at that position. Come let Chavis and Brick work their magic with you
