Excellent interview with Steve Young dealing with some of the issues I'm sure Cam is wrestling with at the college level

the thing with duel threat qbs....there has never been a duel threat qb that has been better at passing than running...they will never be great at passing...so why not go with a pocket passing qb and let the running go to the running backs we so heavily recruit

Problem is during HS they are the best athletes playing the qb position.
They are the best on the field so they look great.
Get to college everybody is good as them.
So then it's mediocre.
Which is where is LSU is and has been in terms of qb play.

By NFL standards Vick was not a great passer. He was more effective than most dual threat NFL QBs but below avarage as an NFL passer.

Drew Brees started out running with the ball a lot. Has a lot to do with how good he is at navigating inside of the pocket. But he was always a good passer to be fair. Took him a while to learn how to compensate for his height and remain in the pocket.

That's a really stupid statement man.

Drew Bree's and Donovan Mcnab were both dual threats in college and were insanely better passers.

The article is literally about a dual threat QB who's one of the greatest QB's to ever play

Russell Wilson recently

auto correct on phone does that.

Brees ran a good bit in college

so why not go with a pocket passing qb

Why not go after the guy with a great arm who is also mobile? A recruit like Brandon Harris...

Or Russell Wilson, Drew Brees, etc.

Hell, Andrew Luck has legs too.

The spread offense has made the pro-style QB disappear. You'd have to travel to California or Arizona to find a quality pro-style QB.

A lot of credence in your comments. However, all is not lost. Check out the Mettenbergeresque, Cole Kelley of Lafayette Teurlings Catholic. Kid is a legit pro-style QB with a big arm. He's a also athlete enough to start at forward on their roundball team. 2016 guy.

Absolutely. He was very mobile in college, and he even ran with it a bit early in the pros. As Steve Young said pretty plainly, it takes a while for a mobile QB to learn how to work the pocket.

#1 requirement for a stud, QB at the pro level is lightning quick decision making.

This has been proven over and over and over again.

Dual threat or pocket guy doesn't matter.

Yes, but lightning-quick decision making in the passing game in the NFL comes from preparation and time in the game. As Steve Young said, you process tremendous amounts of data and eventually it becomes second-nature. You can't expect that to come immediately from a player coming out of college.

It's hard to gauge that until you see their study habits and how they dissect a play, both offensively and defensively. You not only want a player to make a quick decision, you want him to make the right one 98% of the time.

Watch some film on harris and tell me he's not a better passer than runner. I watched him all through high school and his arm is unbelievable, also very accurate. He just needs playing time. Never say never.

He's a rookie that froze in a big game. Is that 100% his fault? Absolutely not, he got thrown into possibly one of the hardest places to play. He'll have his opportunity to take the reins this off-season. If he doesn't that is 100% on him. We all know how bad Jennings is, if he doesn't beat him out for the starting job then it really doesn't matter who is taking snaps at that point.

If Harris does not become one of the best QB's in LSU history this is solely on Miles and Company. Harris has the arm and the running ability.
