Not too optimistic given their most recent albums. But I saw them at Hangout and thought they were good as shite but I generally feel that way about most shows I go to and they are a top 5 modern band for me, so who knows.

Lol run on sentence

A highly debated topic. I like Moon and Antarctica first and then This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About.

Favorite album:

Saw them at Howlin Wolf in 2000 with the Shins and Califone. One of my top shelf concerts.

My favorites are Lonesome Crowded West and Building Nothing Out of Something.

Also, Everywhere and His Nasty Parlour Tricks is good. Pretty different from a lot of the other music. A few songs are experimental/off the wall but it's a nice change of pace.

The Moon and Antarctica or The Lonesome Crowded West would be my favorite. I like all their stuff though, even the more recent albums.

Basically the top 3 have already been named. Moon and Antarctica, This is a Long Drive..., and Lonesome Crowded West. I don't really have an order, I just pick one based on what I haven't listened to recently.

I like ugly Casanova stuff though so who knows?

While I think those three are a lot better, I'm also not going to turn my nose up at Good News like a buzzkill. I don't care much for the We were dead album personally. I'm using short form on all these album names because on phone and lazy.

If you haven't listened to them before, I'd start with Moon and Antarctica. It's their most accessible album IMO, and might just be their best.

Then I'd go to Lonesome Crowded West or This is a Drive.

I love Good News as well, but their sound changed a lot. Float On is their huge hit from this album, but I really think the rest of the album is harder to get into than M&A.

I liked We Were Dead a lot at first but it didn't age well for me. I just can't listen to that album any more.

I always go back and forth on my favorite MM album, and I agree on the top 3, though I do have some love for Interstate 8. A lot of those songs show up on Long Drive... but I'll always have a special place for their first record.

I know in true hipster fashion I'm supposed to hate their new stuff, but Good News is a great f'n album. I wish everyone's sellout record had a stretch of songs as good as Bury Me With It, Dance Hall, and Bukowski. Admittedly, their most recent effort was a disappointment, which is probably why they took so long to record this one. I'm excited to see if they can rebound.

I still say it's better than decent. It's just measured by an impossible standard.
