I got a bad feeling when Frazier got snubbed.
Tebow somehow finished third despite getting the most first place votes.

I dunno about hating on some of the winners from the mid 60s and earlier b/c a lot of those dudes played both ways. A&M's first winner John David Crow's numbers look pedestrian until you realize he was a beast on D as well.

Barry Sanders got to 2,850 yards and 44 touchdowns if you count his Holiday Bowl performance.

He may have needed more carries or whatever, but whoa.

I could see that but i don't think it was a screwjob

As to the Archie Griffin one, I agree he should not have won his senior year. However, there have been a lot of people that said he should have won it his sophomore year, but didn't because he was an underclassman (that is a Heisman thing that has only recently ended in itself)

1. Georgia RB Herschel Walker, 1980
The winner: South Carolina RB George Rogers
The skinny: Walker was a true freshman, and his third-place finish was considered remarkable for a guy his age. But he should've won: His presence helped Georgia win the national title. He ran for 1,616 yards and 15 TDs. How reliant were the Bulldogs on Walker? Georgia QB Buck Belue completed 77 passes all season, meaning Walker basically was a one-man offense for a team that won the national title. Rogers had a good season, no question, with 1,781 yards and 14 TDs. But his season wasn't as good as Walker's. (Pitt DE Hugh Green finished second, and he was more deserving than Rogers, too. But not as deserving as Walker.)

Our QB completed 83 passes that season. So, using their logic, Rogers was basically a one-man offense as well.

So #s 10, 9, 8, and 4:
Don McPherson, Paul Giel, Jerry Rhome, Chuck Muncie were snubbed because they posted better stats

but #1:
Herschel Walker was snubbed because he had worse stats but he was on a better team?

--------------------------------------

And #6:
Tommie Frazier was snubbed because his QB stats are better than Eddie George's RB stats

but #s 7, 5, and 3:
Greg Pruitt, Marshall Faulk, and OJ Simpson were snubbed because their RB stats are better than Pat Sullivan, Gino Torretta, and Gary Beban's QB stats?

---------------------------------------

#6:
Snubbed- Frazier: (Pass: 1362 YD, 17 TD, 4 INT / Rush: 604 YD, 14 TD)
Heisman- George: (Rush: 1927 YD, 24 TD)

#7:
Snubbed- Pruit: (Rush: 1760 YD, 18 TD)
Heisman- Sullivan: (Pass: 2262 YD, 21 TD, 13 INT)

#5:
Snubbed- Faulk: (Rush: 1630 YD, 15 TD / 18 REC)
Heisman- Torretta: (Pass: 3060 YD, 19 TD, 7 INT)

#3:
Snubbed- Simpson: (Rush: 1543 YD, 13 TD)
Heisman- Beban: (Pass: 1359 YD, 8 TD, 7 INT / Rush: 227 YD, 11 TD)

------------------------------------------------------

TL;DR:

List says stats matter in #10, #9, #8, and #4.
List says stats don't matter in #1.

List says on #6, QB is snubbed by RB.
Heisman RB on #6 has better stats than "snubbed" RBs on #7, #5, and #3.

List says on #7, #5, and #3, RB is snubbed.
Heisman QBs on #7 and #5 have better stats than "snubbed" QB on #6.

Simpson v. Beban is debatable.

I'd agree with #2.

OJ Simpson also beat UCLA and Beban head to head...in the "Game of the Century"

Last game of the year #1 UCLA vs. #2 USC...Pac10 title, Rose Bowl, national championship all on the line in one game...

And Simpson had his Heisman moment winning the game with his run to daylight...LINK

Even the Heisman folks knew it was such a mistake in voting for Beban...that they made Simpson the biggest winner of all-time (at the time) the next year...despite Simpson having less impressive stats.

Simpson was the biggest snub in CFB history. He should have been the first back-to-back winner as he was the best player in CFB in all 3 years he played.

Actually the most notable thing about that game is how USC leapfrogged #2 Tennessee with the same record even after losing to a terrible Oregon State team. Complete bullshite. UT are the real '67 national champs.

Y'all still claim it anyhow despite losing your bowl.

Edit: And USC beat UCLA who beat y'all.

As has been said...USC beat #1 UCLA who had already beat Tennessee...ergo the leapfrog.

A Tennessee team that then lost their bowl game.

While USC won the Rose Bowl.

I didn't know UT claims this title...what a joke. Some schools have no shame.

Are you for real?

Oregon State 1967

Final Rankings
Coaches #8
AP #7

1967 record 7–2–1 (4–1–1 Pac-8)

Terrible? They had almost the same record as your beloved Tennessee team that you claim should have won the MNC.

And USC lost by 3 points to Oregon State in a Hurricane downpour thunderstorm in Corvallis...where it was mud city for OJ. Couldn't get any traction.

Tennessee still claims it based on some selector called Litkenhous.

I honestly had never ever heard that UT thought they were the MNC in 1967.

But...wikipedia your friend...confirmed...UT claimed national titles - 6 (1938, 1940, 1950, 1951*, 1967, 1998*) *Denotes consensus national title

Bizarre.

YOU LOST YOUR DAMN BOWL GAME AND YOU LOST TO A TEAM THAT USC DEFEATED!

USC (10-1) #1 by - AP, UPI (the old coaches poll before USA Today) B(QPRS), BR, CFRA, DeS, FN, FWAA, HAF, MGR, NCF, NFF, SR.

Tennessee (9–2) #1 by Litkenhous

And you had one more loss.

(was Litkenhous a UT grad?)

Ahh...

It's funny...going back and seeing all these "formulas" and polls from the 1930's - 1950's - by different people claiming X team - national champ and retroactively.

I had never heard of half of this stuff...especially some of the Bama claimed titles from obscure computer models.

I grew up AP/Coaches...if you don't win one of those - you didn't win anything.

And since AP has been around since 1936...you didn't really need the tiny obscure publications...unless you were stretching to claim something.

I think the worst one of my life was Jason White winning over Larry Fitzgerald. White racked up huge numbers but never really seemed like anything special to me at all. You're telling me he was more outstanding than Larry Fitzgerald that year?!?!
