Did Mingos teammate push him to try and make him miss and avoid penalty?

Article 7
:
Players in a Defenseless Posture

(b) Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is:
(1)
Forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, even if the initial contact of the defender’s helmet or facemask is lower than the passer’s neck, and regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him;

He didn't really lower his helmet, just went too high. He comes down into Dalton's chest and he's golden.

You may not like the rule, but it's pretty textbook.

Because you can't go high period any longer. But going low and blowing the quarterbacks knee out is ok

I agree really staring to hate the NFL, I mean No Fun League.

No - I think Mingo came in so quickly, his teammate was responding to where Dalton was. He is quick as a cat.

Like I said, he comes down a little bit and he's golden. You go up at a player's shoulders and head you're going to draw the flag.

That being said, I'm not a proponent of trying to make player's safer by changing rules nearly as much as I am in favor of drastically altering equipment from hard plastic armor to stuff that actually absorbs force rather than delivers it.

But that's another thread entirely.

Going low on a qb is a penalty also. A 49er got a penalty for hitting Wilson square in the chest on 3rd down near the goalline which swung the score 4pts.

I don't even have a problem from a "pussification" standpoint. My problem is it is causing arbitrary outcomes in football games. The standards are impossible to adhere to and impossible to accurately officiate.

In the nfl the margins are razor thin and these arbitrary calls are swinging games.

Yep. Matt Ryan got smoked by a textbook tackle that was flagged as well. They really ought to just come out and say "If you hit the QB too hard, no matter where you make contact, you will be flagged."

I would add arbitrary and inconsistent...

Its hard to adjust to rules when these to factors come into play imo..

It's become glorified flag football and it makes me sad
I get the defenseless receiver but all these rules protecting qbs are just absurd. Grow a pair and take a hit like a man

& the call against the 49ers on where they hit Wilson square in the chest is complete bs. That was a huge momentum swing and it put more points on the board

"Ryan got hit in the chest and drew the flag"

So true. and the announcers didn't even talk about it much. I don't mind the rule itslef, but it is really hard for refs to enforce well. It is frequently blown.

Don't be a neranderthal. I love Mingo, and I love a hard hit as much as anyone, but head shots have a terrible affect on these players, often years down the road. Yes, I know these guys play voluntarily, but the head shots and launching at defenseless players must re reined in.

Football (both college and pro) must deal with it, and they are. I, for one, applaud them.

And don't worry, the game isn't going to turn into flag football any time soon.

Actually, thats a penalty too. Its pretty much gotten to the point that if you hit the QB hard, its a flag. Plain and simple.
