Monty next?

I've recently decided that people are too quick to label coaches bad. Like players, many take years to develop. Kevin McHale is in his 6th NBA season (2 weren't full seasons in Minny), and he is finally getting the hang of it. If a coach peaks and the team can't get over a certain hump in the playoffs, that's one thing. But I think it's good for a coach to be able to grow with an under the radar team.

you know what's funny, too? people keep saying on Pels Talk, "What if they start winning too much? Then we can't can Monty."

well why the frick would you want to fire someone who is starting to win?

I know new owners, especially Vivek are always looking to make major impacts right off the bat, but this is a joke. Yes, Sacramento has blown way too many big leads this season, but they were 8-4, and have played the last two weeks without a guy who was playing like a top 5 player in the league. And you're replacing him with Ty Corbin?!?! And looking at Del Negro as the next coach?!?!?!?!

That's a joke... Nik rocks

Because at some point you realize the coach's limitations are there and they are true.

Monty's rotations are bad, experimenting is one thing, but repeatedly having issues with that is another. He doesn't understand his personnel at hand very well.

Everyone knows and can see the limitations to Monty's coaching, his coaching is as sporadic as Austin Rivers play, good games far and few in between, but a shitload of bad ones.

As for Sac-town, they're idiots, Malone had things going well and right, their franchise player gets KO'd with viral meningitis and they fall apart. That can't be said of Monty.

Woj's full story on this is absolutely amazing. Here are my 2 favorite parts, but you're all welcome to find more. This is fricking nuts.

quote:

Michael Malone had been pining for a backup point guard, but Sacramento Kings management had a different idea for their coach a year ago: Royce White. Here was the beginning of the end for this doomed partnership, a fight that widened the gulf between them.

White was out of shape, had no interest in playing basketball – which had been clear when the Houston Rockets released him. He had been awful in the Development League, a malingerer, and done nothing to deserve a call-up to the Kings.

"Pretty soon, they're telling [Malone]: Why aren't you putting him in the games?" one organizational source told Yahoo Sports. "That's when it really started to get bad between him and the guys upstairs."

quote:

The owner played the part of a fantasy league owner, treating the Kings like a science experiment. He shared tactical experiences with Malone about coaching his child's youth team, and pressed him to consider playing four-on-five defense, leaking out a defender for cherry-picking baskets. Some semblance of that strategy is expected to be employed with Corbin now, a source told Yahoo Sports.

Holy shite.

He's a really solid coach that I would love back in NOLA.

Feel bad for him.

I feel
Horrible for him as well. He busted his arse for years to get a head coaching job. He and his Dad are well respected in the coaching circles.
