He'll be an Orlando City player by the end of the week, per the Orlando Sentinel.

He may well be teaming up on the left with Ashley Cole.

Has Cole sucked at Roma or something? Or is this a legit rumor?

Yeah, he's been pretty bad unfortunately.

Roma will try desperately to bring in another LB this winter (an actual top notch starter I'm sure is the aim but at least a different LB to share time with Holebas).

If they find someone they like then Cole going to the MLS (specifically Orlando) has been the most prevalent rumor. I don't think he wants to go back to a different EPL side.

What happened? I saw some Roma games earlier in the year and he played in all of them, and played well I thought. I even remember the commentators praising him for how quickly he had integrated himself into the squad.

They may have been English announcers. He seems to "fit in" very well simply from getting along with everyone and having a good attitude / relationship with media and fans.

However, including pre-season, he seriously has had one good game: away against Man City in CL.

A couple of decent ones in Serie A but has been very poor in the vast majority.

It was his general inability to grasp the defensive tactics at all that got him benched for Holebas. That he really doesn't get forward makes this even harder to understand.

However, the real shock is that he was getting consistently abused off the dribble and not just by top wingers but by 35 year old journeymen only starting for last place Cesena due to their injury crisis.

They were. And that explains that.

Makes sense. That happened to be one of the games I saw.

He old as frick. Maybe not in number, but in games played. He's 33 now. I can't imagine how many minutes he played with Arsenal and Chelsea. All those League games, Champions League, Cup games, International duty. Especially for a player like him and the position he plays. Those legs have got to be wearing down after all those years of coming forward to help attack on that left side and then tracking back to play defense. Fullbacks may have the toughest jobs in soccer, in terms of the athleticism and energy levels needed to play the position at a high level.

Yeah, it was a bit of a gamble for Roma to bring him in but it seemed like a good one after striking gold with how good Maicon has been.

The logic seemed sound in that Serie A isn't nearly as constantly "back and forth" as the EPL especially how Roma maintains so possession.

I'd still like to think he can turn it around and help us during the spring but it does seem that going after a LB is the number one priority for the winter window if there's one to be had.

Remember when Brek was going to be a center back or left back?

I still think he'd make a hell of left back if he wasn't dumb as shite. His size and speed with a left foot would be perfect for the position.

Oddly enough I think he's too tall/long to be a left back. That requires some serious agility to maintain stride for stride with today's wingers. If he were to play in defense it would be at center back, where he impressed Atletico scouts a couple years back and played like two games for FC Dallas, one of which ended in a red card pretty early IIRC.

I can't recall a game where Brek was getting outrun on the reg. (It's all the other shite about his game that pisses me off). The dude is a freak of nature, athletically.

Chris Klute is another guy who has size and speed. I hope he gets another Jan call up and actually gets to play this time around.
