Note to rant posters: AJ had OBJ and Juice last year in the bowl game.

I've said it before, CLM recruits too many project QBs. We have one now in McMillan. Ohio State does not and its why they're in the playoffs.

I thought we recruited Jones. But we have to go elsewhere to find guys. Dak would have been good. But I don't think most people saw him being this good coming out. Last qb from LA to get drafted was Stefan Lefors in 2005. Think about that.

First start against a defense ranked in the top 10. You'd be a fool to not think those guys wouldn't have helped this team. Hell obj runs a punt back and that's the diff in the state game or bama game.

Umm the guy wouldn't have started over mett, he would have taken over this year. He didn't show up because he couldn't be far away from mommy.

He didn't start every game this year. He wasn't injured. I think the coaches want Harris. Just for whatever reason it hasn't panned out yet.

If Jennings is QB'ing Bama this season everyone would be talking about how good a QB he is. On the other hand, if Sims is the QB at LSU he would look as bad or worse than Jennings and the fans would be saying he is the worse QB ever like they are about Jennings right now.

Umm no.

I don't understand why we say LSUs QB recruiting is so bad when LSU recruits the same players as everyone else. Even AJ had other offers.

Kiel leaving the way he did hurt. He was so highly rated that when he committed, other QBs probably bailed (either on their own or because the staff didn't think they needed another one.) Remember, Kiel also didn't even tell the staff he wouldn't register. He just didn't show. At that point, we were done for many other

Look at WHEN Kiel decided not to show. Rumor is his Dad TOLD him not to go to LSU after the 1/9/12 debacle. I do not blame the kid. I blame Dumbo

Ryan Perriloux's fault we don't have prepared QBs.
This 6 year old excuse no longer has legs. RP was dismissed from the team in 2008.

Gunner Kiel

This is the answer to the question. His backing out at the last minute ruined the transition process in terms of going from one experienced QB to another.
These are lame excuses that other teams do not use, they simply develop 'the next guy'.

He was only committed to us for 30 days, no? Couldn't have been that big of a factor in our plans.

Exactly. The answer can't possibly just be bc Miles didn't get one. It's always got to be bc Perriloux, bc Zach, and if you point out that fact you're a negatiger...

I've never heard this. Where did you hear said rumor?

I could undestand having some misgivings if his skill set was the same as JL and then seeing how JL was benched after the Bama game.

Rhetorical question ... and failure at the highest level. As was the failure to design an offense to spread the field more for LSUs great talent. Maybe next year will be better ...

According to the way that we recruited, we had a great OLine ready, Beckham, Landry, and Hill supposed to be on the team if they had played out their eligibility and - no QB ready to go.

I would tell you IMHO that if those three had stayed, we would have probably won at least 11 games (mostly due to Hill), but the cost would have been no Fournette and maybe no Dupre. Jennings and Harris would have been considered more than able and would have had almost All SEC type seasons. The problem this year has been the receivers. They don't have the timing down, they drop passes that are in their hands or thrown straight into their guts. Take a look on any passing play where Jennings or Harris has had to scramble a little bit , the receivers don't work that hard to get open save maybe for Dupre.

I don't necessarily disagree with this. However, that doesn't really change my point. He was a guy that was supposed to enroll early, and was the top QB in the class. He may not have been committed for very long, but once he was, our priorities went elsewhere. In addition, he didn't tell the staff what was up, so his radio silence lost them a couple more days during the critical January time frame.

Maybe, that's why Les talked about lacking "chest".

Now, why Rettig wasn't ready and transferred, I don't really know.

They HAD to go pro because they knew that their stats would drop through the floor this year if they stayed.

We were a run heavy team that could not throw the ball at all and we still didn't have a 1000 yard rusher. Think about that for a minute.

We used more RBs. For comparison, Alabama only had about 100 more rushing yards this year than we did.

But to the point, you can't tell me that Beckham and Landry would not have made a huge difference this year. Not just the obvious category of drops, but also timing and getting open or to the ball.
