What age is it appropriate to get a kid a bb gun? My son turns 6 in February, was thinking about one for his birthday. What is the OB recommendation.

Not about age. It's about being responsible

I got my son his first Red Rider at age 1. He obviously doesn't shoot it at age 1, but it is in the safe for him when he's ready.
I know that doesn't answer your question however.

Mine is 4 and getting one for Christmas. Will give me a chance to teach him gun safety and and how to aim. Plus he can bring it on the deer stand and feel more involved

Get the daisy buck model, it's a little smaller than the red rider and you won't need to cut the stock.

Gave my daughter my old Benjamin at 4. She can hold it ok, but I have to help her aim because her arms aren't quite long enough.

When you are confident he won't shoot birds, squirrels, streetlights, windows, cars, cats, dogs, bullies and his little sister.

I think he is responsible enough. It will be a suprise to my wife as well. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't way off base here. I have a perfect spot for a range in the back yard. Plus we just found out we're having another little one this summer so that will be one more way to introduce him to responsibility.

Both my boys got one when they were five. They are moving up to .22/410 crack barrels this year. Oldest is 8 youngest will be 7. The younger one matured faster than his big brother. His momma ruined him. I did damage control on the second one. Kids are like pancakes, the first one is always a throw away, right?
