Roger Goodell said last week that the league will vote in March to expand the playoff field from 12 to 14 teams in 2015 and, with that, several league sources believe playoff reseeding will become a reality.

One formula that will be discussed in the offseason is that in addition to first-round byes for the teams with the best record in the AFC and NFC, two divisional champions in each conference will get home games and the remaining 8 teams will be seeded by win-loss record.

The playoff seeding idea has been tabled previously but proponents believe playoff expansion will provide a boost to change.

The winner of the NFC South this season will have an 8-8 record at best but will host a playoff game under the current seeding formula with rewards division champions.

The NFL has had 12 teams qualify for the postseason since 1990, when it expanded the field from 10, adding a third wild card in each conference to join three division champions.

Makes me think we're getting close to the point where we might as well have a 32 team knockout playoff from the beginning of the season. Almost half the league in the playoffs

Wait so now only one team gets a bye?? Way to water down regular season and reward getting hot at right time even more.

Seattle hosts at 7-9

Nah man, that's cool. How exciting for them to take out the defending champs as massive underdogs.

The Saints/Falcons potentially host at 7-9, we have an issue.

Stop fricking with shite.

I kige this.

Not to mention the fact that teams lost on overtime FGs for years and it was OK. But the Saints beat Brett Favre in the NFCCG in overtime and it merits a rule change.

I doubt this is a knee jerk reaction to the Saints hosting a playoff game at 7-9.

who wants to add teams. What a joke. America today is becomming a whining and crying place to live.

we give everyone trophies
we dont keep scores
everyone makes the team

now we have a college football playoff "will probably expand soon"
and then nfl adds more teams to playoffs. what a joke

Maybe not, but there's been a lot of uproar in regards to how bad the NFC south has been this year. There's been much more discussion this year about how shitty this division is compared to how the NFC west was in 2010. What they need to realize is that this is an anomaly. The NFC south will not be this bad next year, not 6-10 or 7-9 division winner bad. It's also likely that there won't be another division similar to how the NFC south is this season either. This is a knee jerk reaction by the league, maybe not fully because of the NFC south division, but it's certainly pushed the potential want to change it even more so. The league prides itself on parity, and that's what they have. Stop trying to fix something that isn't broken.
