Range vent/hood questions.... Brands? CFMs?

Getting a new gas range here in the next month or so are there any particulars on a new hood?
Do I need to stay with the same brand as the range? Are there any particular bands that are better than others? I need just a regular under the cabinet hood, but i know I need to make sure I have enough CFMs. I'm thinking I don't want any less than 400cfms, but I'd lean towards at least close to 600 or so.
Any recs?

I kept mine the same brand just BC it would drive me crazy if they weren't. I went with Kenmore Elite about 2.5 years ago and haven't had any problems with it.
I believe this is the one I have. LINK

What is the btu output of your stove? It may require more than 600. 1200 is required for high btu burners. Most of the hoods sold with appliance packages are useless. Unless the hood is externally vented, don't bother.
Broan makes quality stuff without the silly prices of some semi custom hoods. The pro line has removable metal baffles and a grease rail, just like a commercial hood.e6000 series. LINK
Also, consider a hood 12-18 wider than the stove. It will draw air better.

I'd love to do that, but i'd have to redo cabinets which isn't an option. I've read about the amount of CFMs I'd need, but i'd prefer to not spend 1k on a hood. Out of the ranges the bosch would be the highest at 71k. I do not think at any point and time that I'd be using the entire 71k at once. I'd hope i could suffice with a 600 cfm? I looked at a brand at Costco called Ancona and they have a 900, but not sure about the brand. It will be a relatively short run from the vent to the exit though.

I think it depends on how you want to use it. I went went a roof mounted commercial type vent fan on a broan hood over a wolf range and I could barbecue indoors if I wanted to. It's probably overkill, but I can grill over high heat with no problem and it was cheaper than going with wolfe. Because the motor is outside, it's pretty quiet too.
Eta: range master from broan is the hood.

I have a remote blower as well and like it. It's in the attic tho not the roof. Mine is a thermador 1000cfm over the thermador range. Sucks so good lol. Also look at vent-a-hood brand I had heard good things about that too and supposed to be quiet.

Broan will have what you need. Be careful about getting a high cfm hood. You need makeup air for it to vent properly. This can be a window or door that you can open. Without that, you can literally suck the air through your chimney (soot and all.)

Anyone have an estimation on what it costs to put in a hood?

You don't need make up air if your roof is vented and your heater is in the attic, and you don't have a chimney.

I have Vent-A-Hood. The only reason I bought it was because I liked the way it looked, but it does a great job.

those are great. the "Vent-a-hoods" there are some decent Chinese hoods out there that look great that you can find online. The premium names all make good hhoods. Even Broan has good high cfm hoods.
Most people go for style over function with hoods these days. You really want to make sure the unit has the cfms you need for your level of cooking.
If you mostly bake you don't need much, if you fry, sautee and grill a lot then you need something with a very large fan.
I have customers who swear by downdraft hoods, I have never used one. I have one in my possession but never rant the ducting to install it.

Yeh... I've read about the makeup air deal. Wouldn't put more than probably a 600. My biggest deal is I wasn't sure about the brand. I don't want to spend 1k on a hood b/c I'm not putting a high end oven. This is our first house and I sacrificed on the kitchen appliances b/c the wife really liked this house. I've out it off for as long as I could... That Bosch I'm looking at has a ton of BTUs, but I'll never use all of it... If I'm frying I fry outside on my burner, I will cook burgers and stuff inside though.
Think I'll look into Bosch, vent a hood and broan for what I need....

Downdraft sucks. I had one in my last house. Terrible. On a gas stove, the flames are all drawn sideways by the draft, much of the grease/steam/spatter still ends up vertically, and it just didn't perform well at all.
