A thought on the Sony leaks
Posted by SoGaFan on 12/13/14 at 7:48 pm11
I am not sure which the more depressing thought- the fact that we are all that vulnerable or that the so called "journalists" are gleefully aiding and abetting the crime- disseminating the info that is pure gossip at best, and has very little value outside a purely personal attack.
But I guess such is humanity.

With that being said, I don't see how anyone can put credence in what big execs are saying about celebrities when we only get one side of the story. All of these email attacks against celebrities are essentially meaningless and should not destroy anyone's character.

Basically, the media outlets are being used to disseminate the story. Most of the public doesn't have the time to really scour the internet looking for the actual info. I, personally, have only gained any info on it from catching up at aggregate news outlets like Variety, etc.

This should be on the poli board.
Easily, in web 2.0 design, the media lives for stories like this. It fits their news cycle and allows every uneducated jackass to comment on it. Of course they are happy.

the fact that we are all that vulnerable

I don't feel sorry for Sony, they should have known that the North Koreans wouldn't take kindly to that movie, "The Interview"
I would consider payscale info and protected health information a little more than idle gossip.
Eta: and despite it being a hack, hipaa still holds Sony liable for each disclosure.

i think it's fricking hilarious that north korea is so fricking backwards that they would actually get upset over a movie being made. i hope they make an interview 2

Abide from the Rudin stuff about Obama, what other gossip is there? Link to gossip? I need cheap laughs.

Somebody (maybe even our boy Rudin again) slammed Angelina Jolie as a "talentless hack" or something similar.
I don't really recall seeing a ton of gossipy stuff and some of the leaks (like the back and forth about the budget for the James Bond movie) are actually pretty enlightening and informative reads about the business that even the tell all type books don't even really explore.

Oh right. I think I heard about that. He said she was a spoiled brat, I think.
I don't know how seriously to take it. I've seen these people work with each other. One minute, they're screaming bloody murder at each other. Five minutes later, they're laughing and having coffee. A lot of it is legit, though. Basically, they're like children who have way too much influence and have arrested development from the point they became famous on.

Doesn't mean you have the right to the information. Just like you don't have the right to look at the medical records and SS# leaked either.
The only bit that I would say is truly fair game to actually disseminate is about the SOPA stuff because that does affect the public at large and deals in government issues. But I can also see how saying one can report this piece of info but not the others is just playing semantics. Still if one knowingly buys stolen goods, that person can be charged. Not sure I see what the difference is here.
