Called Visionworks today and they told me I'd have to pay $70 for an eye exam and $160 for a 6 months worth of contacts. I need to get some by the end of the month before I leave for my ski trip. Suggestions? $230 seems stupid expensive.

Get an exam at wal-mart for like $20 and then buy your contacts online

Do you know if online sites for contacts do expedited shipping?

You can probably get an exam for contacts at Wallyworld for probably $79 and a box of Oasys for like $22-25.

In the past they've always given me Biofinity Toric lenses. I have astigmatism. I've never been told this, but I've always just assumed that because of that, I can't just get any random brand of contacts.

1-800-contacts maybe? My dad used to have a mail order contact lens business, he just started online before he died, and my mom sold it to them after he passed away.

I don't know about expedited shipping, but I order through lens.com and am satisfied with their service... but I guess for basic ordering, there's not a lot that could go wrong with an online contact lens company unless they botched the order, sent old lenses or took overly long to send them.
Regardless, you have to get the test. lsu480's recommendation of Walmart is probably fastest/cheapest. I would think they will give you one pair of lenses to leave with from the exam. If you feel responsible enough to not lose or damage that pair during the trip, you may make it until you return, and your online order should be delivered by then. But, importantly, you need to leave with a copy of your prescription from the exam. Bring a copy with you on your trip so that if you do lose a contact, you can go to a local Walmart or eye store and buy one box of contact (instead of 6 month supply)... Or just buy one box of contacts with your exam to take on the trip, then order a year's worth online.

Solid advice.
