Anyone been yet? It opened on Monday and I am thinking about going this evening. I wish they had a menu online for that location though.

Only have a secondhand report from last night. Need to give it a couple weeks at least.

I went tonight. It was quite honestly the worst seafood I have ever eaten. The crab fingers I had were obviously frozen because they were mushy. My wife ordered broiled shrimp. They were dry and flavorless. I got the shrimp dinner. It wasn't really edible. I tried a bit of the stuffed shrimp... It was fried properly but tasted like nothing. The fried shrimp were smaller than anything I've ever seen served in a restaurant. The étouffée was just weird. I couldn't place the flavor but it was gross. Both of my kids ordered catfish off of the kids menu. They aren't picky, but neither of them would eat it. Again, mushy and it didn't lack seasoning, it had none!

The service was spotty, but the people were friendly. I wasnt expecting perfection from a newly opened restaurant, but there really wasn't anything redeeming about the experience. I had high hopes, but I will wait a long time before going back.

Dayum! I had/have high hopes, used to love his father's Fried Shrimp down in Henderson in the 1980s.

Glad I went to Parrains for my Friday staple..Tabasco Catfish with Potato Salad, String Beans, and Cole Slaw.

WOW! Glad I held off from going - was going to take the family and my kids sound about like yours - they love catfish and shrimp.

As far as the original goes, I've found it to be very inconsistent over the past several years... the turtle soup is nothing but broth with a small bit of turtle meat and some frozen vegetable mix, and tastes like swamp water, nothing like a traditional soup au sherry. The gumbo is very watery and thin and bland; on my last visit there was no detection of a roux base at all. The shrimp always seems mushy and overcooked. The only things that were still decent were the bisque and the camp-style dishes, but they're some of the most expensive dishes on the menu. I still will check out the new location in BR, but my expectations will be low. If they don't step up their game they'll never make it here.

I don't live far from there and was hoping it would be a new go to restaurant. Parrains is better in every way, shape, and form.

Went this past Saturday night. The place wasn't packed. The food was not impressive in my opinion. Ordered crab fingers for an apetizer..for $16-$17, I think we should have received more than we did. Wife ordered broiled snapper, she said it was pretty flavorless. The fish came with a baked potato...nothing else. Had to pay extra for a side salad.

I ordered half and half (fried shrimp and shrimp etoufee). This came with fries. The entree came on a small plate (maybe 8" diameter). For 18 dollars, I feel it should have been more food.

We left with no doggybag.

I hate for new businesses to fail but, in my opinion, they overcharge for the amount of food you get. Also, the food is fairly bland in my opinion.

The restaurant ambiance is nothing special. There is a weird boat/office located right when you walk in the door. Every customer can see in the office. Seems silly to me.

I don't think I will go back. Parrain's, Mike Andersons, and even Ralph and Kacoos are better options.

Yep. Your early thoughts were confirmed. From 6/19/14
quote:

I wish them well but I don't know if they will be successful there. The location is not great. I don't know what will separate it apart from all of the other restaurants in town.

As were mine... from 6/20/14
quote:

Success Prediction

Pat's Seafood: No. As mentioned above, it's unlikely it will standout in any significant way. But I hope I'm wrong.
Stabiler's new joint (concept unknown) at 7666 Jefferson Highway, which is located just across the street from Bocage Village: Yes, if you consider years and years of trying to recoup your investment a success. Limited parking spaces will limit sales. He best be counting on lots of catering.
Velvet Cactus: Yes. Because of the awesome atmosphere and lots of booze. The food is secondary and it will be good enough; it will serve its purpose.

Pat's failed 10 or so months ago when they first thought of putting a restaurant there.

Stabiler's new joint on Jefferson Highway. I will stand by my prediction, even though he bought nearby property to add to his limited parking spaces, which will add over $1.25 million to his money pit.

Velvet Cactus will be the tits. The tits Baton Rouge.

My 86-year-old grandmother asked to go here, so this doesn't surprise me.

I am good on seafood joints, so I doubt I'll ever go out that way to visit Pat's. I rarely eat at those type of places as is, and when I do, Parrains or Dempseys fills that need just fine.

I think their business is largely people who know the name from Henderson.. hence why my grandmother wanted to go. She knew the name.

I was going to give it some time and drop in for a quick lunch just so I could have an opinion but the above statement might have killed that for me. That's pretty harsh.

Yep the last thing we need is another fried seafood joint. Especially a shitty one.

The location isn't great, but it has nothing to do with how terrible the food is.

Well I will. I don't mind wasting a lunch if it's bad. At least then I know not to go and bring a few for dinner and get on the hook for a bunch more money.
