Coaches and Dept. go through all this with the kids. Unfortunately there is more to the decdision than the few elements we are listing, for instance grades. Also, some are just ready to get on with their lives kids, marriage, etc....

Mike - this is the kind of info that needs to be a clear part of a required fall semester junior year consumer math class for players. Have them work through this before the end of the season and the agents put on the full court press.

Like the NBA, the kids think "They don't know me and they're wrong!" They all think "I'm going to be the 62% and any money I make is better than the nothing I'm making now." As a grumpy old man, I know it is difficult to tell a 20 year old anything and get them to listen, even facts.

I agree with everything you said. Just keep in mind, these are 20 yo kids who have an agent in their ear pumping their ego. And they see the $$$ and want it now and don't want to wait. And the agents will push the chance of an injury in their senior year, which could kill their draftability.

None of these guys are on that level none! I don't blame guys like tgat leaving especially knowing that we had 2 rookie QBs coming into this year but the next 2 years are completely different IMO and they would all benefit from an extra year.

Staying one year to improve your draft status make more money and better your career will not hurt a kid with a family or even if he is financially strapped, that would tell me even more to stay bc it's one year..... You have already stayed 3 years and it didn't affect you one bit. I understand certain situations where you have nothing to gain or you know the team will be young at your position and may have a bad year after a great one and for these situations you should go, BUT if you have the ability to make more money by staying another year or even 2 PLUS the chance to win a championship in college the only time you will ever be there than do it!!! Money is not forever but memories can be and if you have this opportunity to make more money at the same time, to me is a no brainier. What they should do is have a professional financial adviser with zero to gain come in and let them know what their best decision is no matter what their financial situation is at that moment?!?! Like I said one or two years will not affect them one bit besides in a positive way if they have much to gain. If I were a coach I wouldn't let my underclassman hire people that have things to gain from them for advise that's just dumb!!! You can't trust someone that has an opportunity to make money off of you giving you advice?!?! These guys need to look at the facts and the fact is most of these guys should stay for their own benefit. Period GO TIGERS!!

Even if you showed some of the players the stats, they will still leave early. Some come to college for one thing, and that is to get to the NFL. Not everyone comes to LSU because they have the same love for the university that us fans do.

Whatever, if you think you're good enough to play in the NFL, I say go for it. You can always come back and get your degree... Like Shaq!

How much money do they get up front; how much do they blow trying to live the lifestyle; and suddenly how much chance do you see of returning to finish out and get that degree?
Half a mil isn't really that much, once you start throwing money around like you're the king. Go a few years with diminishing further income, and suddenly you're broke bigtime and have no time to fix anything.

Especially when young adults think that $500k is $500k without thinking about uncle sam's cut. You basically get like $302k after taxes etc.;
Then you figure a lot of these guys want to buy a house or whatever, get a nice car. After a downpayment on a $700k house, you only have $162k left, and then you've got $110k left after you buy some wheels.
