With 2014 over in a few weeks, what was the biggest political gaffe of the year?

He won reelection in a race that people thought was trending blue at the end.

Was it not a gaffe because he won?

Can't be the worst one if it didn't matter. Maybe Mary saying to vote her out if you don't like obamacare.

It was hardly the worst obviously, I just thought it was the most petty and trivial thing to get in a tiss about.

Mary's "Where was Cassidy when the hurricanes hit" was a pretty good one.

That may have been a staffer, but still funny after his response.

Yep, the handicapped scandal was the most embarrassing.

Though neither of these are actually from 2014, they both came to light this year.

Biggest gaffe:
quote:

This bill was written in a tortured way to make sure CBO did not score the mandate as taxes. If CBO scored the mandate as taxes, the bill dies. Okay, so it’s written to do that. In terms of risk-rated subsidies, if you had a law which said that healthy people are going to pay in -- you made explicit healthy people pay in and sick people get money, it would not have passed… Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really, really critical for the thing to pass… Look, I wish Mark was right that we could make it all transparent, but I’d rather have this law than not.

Most damaging gaffe:
quote:

What’s important to remember politically about this is if you’re a state and you don’t set up an exchange, that means your citizens don’t get their tax credits — but your citizens still pay the taxes that support this bill. So you’re essentially saying [to] your citizens you’re going to pay all the taxes to help all the other states in the country. I hope that that’s a blatant enough political reality that states will get their act together and realize there are billions of dollars at stake here in setting up these exchanges.

Landrieu and the sexist and racist statement. Truly a smh moment.

Grimes (D-KY) awkwardly refusing to say if she voted for Obama.

It made it so much more about her unpreparedness to handle questions than the answer to the question.

In October Nancy Pelosi was on Bill Maher and said a Republican takeover of the Senate would mark the end of civilization. But it didn't get any play in the MSM.
