Your only entertainment for a year was between 20 great movies or 100 good ones

Here's the scene - you are stuck in some secluded spot (it's getting harder to come up with these scenarios with today's technology - let's go with the old "stuck on a desert island with a dvd player and solar power source" or "artic work station")

You have lots of free time and your only entertainment is one of the following choices:

You can choose to bring 20 great movies, defined as you get to choose the 20 movies you think are the best or just like the most.

Or you can choose 100 movies which would be randomly selected with the only criteria that they have met some definition of "good" - ie: Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, at least 50% of available stars from a given critic or critcs, etc.

Which do you choose? And why?

100 good movies.

If it's good, I will enjoy it.

100 movies I enjoy > 20 movies I enjoy a little bit more.

this. no question. SOmetimes I'm in the mood for a certain type of movie. A nostalgic movie or a goofy movie or a childhood movie or a slapstick movie. I'd need the choice so i have all my moods and bases covered.

NO thank you at all. I'd like to choose the movies i watch. There's plenty of movies that fit that criteria that i can't stand. In fact many of my favorite movies arent even rated that high.

You guys are giving me pause. I originally thought I'd rather the 20 best ones that I get to choose. But 100 random "good" ones does have some appeal I'd guess. Plus, heck, you never know, you might get some really good ones in there.

More importantly, IMO, one you haven't seen before.

How about an e-reader with 1000 great books?

But since a book gives longer (and arguably better) entertainment than a movie in most cases, you wouldn't get more of them, you'd get less. - If you go the book route you get 10 great books.

This is tough. Originally I thought 20 great movies, but you guys have me second guessing. The thing is if you watch a movie every day, that's 18 watches for each movie that year. Damn. That's a lot.

After I watch all of the "good movies," I have 265 days left. If I like less than 15 of the movies, then I'm back to the 18 number. And I also wasted time watching 85 movies that I didn't love. I'm a pretty tough movie critic.

I think I'm going with 20 just because I hate so many movies.

Yeah. That would make another good option.

I'll take my chances with 100 good movies, chances are at least a few will contain soft porn.

i'd pick 20 great ones.

if i brought 100 good ones, there i a good chance i would only watch like 30 of them anyway, lol.

I probably watched the 5th element 100 times in 08-09.

i can rewatch the shite out of movies that i enjoy.
