What is LSU's "grade exclusion policy" and has anyone done it?

I was just reading the academic calendar and there's a date for "Final date to petition deans' offices to invoke the Grade Exclusion Policy, 4:30 p.m. deadline ".

Wondering what this is. TIA.

You can protest to have a grade dropped off your records. It works, just make sure you meet the deadline. They are very strict.

Like an old grade or a current semester grade? What kind of criteria is required?

I had no idea. Damnit. I could have been summa cum laude with one B dropped.

It only works if you repeat a class and make a higher grade.

As of the 2013 fall semester, the university has implemented the Grade Exclusion Policy. Under this policy, students may improve the undergraduate LSU and cumulative GPAs by repeating a maximum of three courses (up to 12 credit hours) in which a grade of “D” or “F” was received and requesting that the repeat grade be the only one that is used in the calculation.

That's stupid. Where I graduated from you could retake any class and the lower grade was nullified. You didn't need approval or to protest.

This, and most of the colleges have a list of courses you can't use it for. It's for people who partied too much one semester and need to get rid of that F in organic, it's not getting you out of failing senior design.

I thought this was true of most colleges, guess things have changed. If someone wants to pay tuition again to take the same class then dammit, they should allow it and drop the shitty grade for you.

Known as repeat/delete.

LSU isn't a university that follows it.

The process has to be initialized at the beginning of the semester.

Not only that, but there is a huge list of classes which are exceptions.

If you have an old grade and you retake the course, if you file by the appropriate deadline, they will "drop" your old grade and only your new one will count. Make sure you follow their rules to the letter and be sure that your course is not on the list of ineligible courses. I thought about doing so for Statics to replace an F, but never went through with it.

Can I retroactively go back and get some of those dropped?? That would improve my GPA significantly!

My freshman year my roommate in the dorms was killed in a car accident over fall break. In the spring I was able to petition and received all W's for my entire fall semester. Didn't get to pick and chose grades, just basically started over.

Wasn't necessary. I didn't need it to graduate and my GPA was fine enough to get a great job after graduation.
