OT Doctors/Urologists, a question, if you don't mind answering.

I have been to the ER twice since the day after Thanksgiving with strong and worsening testicular/abdominal pain... Lack of appetite, but that is more because of what hurts and how bad.

No torsion, no hernia, but the following two issues were noted this last time around (last night):

-A cyst on the left AND right epidydimus (1 on each)
-Hydrocele

In your experience or just plain medical perspective, what is the likelihood of those cysts causing the severe pain that I am having?

I have a Urology appointment tomorrow morning, and have been taking antibiotics for 2 weeks now. Levaquin is the antibiotic, and I have gone from hydrocodone to percocet for pain control.

Any opinions would be appreciated greatly as I am a bit worried with my family history of cancers and tumors/cysts.

I would delete this and just wait until the doctor tomorrow, nothing good can come of it. I mean 50 people could say you are fine and one could say you have cancer and all you will see is the one guy who says cancer. Just enjoy the day with your fanily and find out tomorrow.

Just cut them off and rub some dirt in the wound.

You'll be fine...

Yes they checked for that and no dice.

I am not any more worried about it if someone says cancer because they aren't actually on my case. I appreciate their opinion of that is their thought, though.

The reason I started this thread is because the doctors I have seen thus far in the ER either didn't notice, or were dismissive of the cysts in general.

Were you diagnosed with epididymitis?

No Doctor, No Cysts, but >10 years ago I had stomach pain, nausea, testicular pain. After a CBC with elevated WBC count the docs were pretty certain it was my appendix. They said the pain was radiating to my groin area. Removed appendix and all was good.

My experience with ER doctors is that they have a tendency to make assumptions/misdiagnose.

My son went to the ER with abdominal pain a few weeks ago and the doctor told my wife that his testicles has rescinded and that we needed to get them checked out because it could lead to fertility problems and cancer down the line. My wife proceeds to freak out and make an appointment with a urologist for 3 days later.

Urologist took one look and told us that they were fine- right where they needed to be.

Just hold on until tomorrow and see what the urologist has to say. They deal with this stuff every day.

I got all that too. Sometimes it hurts, sometimes it doesn't. If something hits one of those cysts it hurts more that something just tapping on your nuts. I still slam on the regs though and my unit works fine. I can't walk by an ovulating woman without getting her pregnant

Cancer is usually painless. I assume they used an ultrasound to let you know that you had those hydroceles, which appear very different on U/S than cancer, which doesn't transilluminate like hydroceles do. It sounds like you're being treated for epididymitis. But there are other things that can cause pain radiating to the groin and scrotum, but don't ask me. I'm just a med student

They initially were treating me for epidydimitis, but as of last night they kinda backed off of that. Basically told me to finish the antibiotics and follow up with Urology.

It is i teresting you (or one of you) said something about the appendix. I had 2 CTs with gastroview and veinal contrast, and they showed nothing as far as anything to do with appendicitis...

To the guy that had the appendix issue, was it actually appendicitis, or something else that had to do with the appendix causing the pain?

A lot of these responses have been very helpful, so i appreciate the ongoing discussion!

ETA: cwill, I had an initial referral to urology, but the guy gave me a sports physical and rectal exam all in about a minute and sent me away. I REALLY hope i don't have what you had... frick that.

im no dr

but if its your appendix you should have pain in lower right abdomen. Push in on it and if it hurts when you let off... its probably your appendix. If you have pain between the base of your dick and about 2" below your belly button id bet on prostate.

Was it really sore when he pushed on your prostate? If so prostatitis might be possible. I don't know much about that though. I've had prostatitis myself and that rectal exam was not fun.
