FIYA FEST

quote:

Fiyawerx Productions is Extremely excited to Anounce Fiya Fest 2015!!
Head to Mardi Gras World on May 1st to catch some of the top musical performers, upholding the true NOLA traditions, not to mention a delicious crawfish boil. Plus, it's for a great cause.

Fiya Fest is held to benefit The Roots of Music program and New Orleans Musicians' Clinic (NOMC). The Roots of Music is an outstanding organization that helps to preserve and promote the local NOLA music culture through youth music education and support, serving low-income communities and providing free opportunities for the children of New Orleans. The NOMC is a new addition to the fest's charity donations, and the group offers affordable health care options for the musicians of New Orleans. Two incredibly worthy causes.

The festival is also being supported by WWOZ radio station, the local station which best represents the community spirit of New Orleans music. The lineup initially premiered live on the air during their annual spring membership drive earlier today.

As for the music, well, the lineup certainly speaks for itself. Look at all of these great collaborations:

Diesel Fiya - Karl Denson, Lee Fields, Tony Hall, Doug Wimbish, Russell Batiste, Robert Walter, Big Sam, Farnell Newton

New Orleans Social Club - George Porter Jr., Leo Nocentelli, Ivan Neville, Henry Butler, Raymond Weber

Dragon Smoke - Ivan Neville, Stanton Moore, Robert Mercurio, Eric Lindell

Big Chief Bo Dollis Tribute - Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Chief Bo Dollis Jr., Cyril Neville, Alfred "Uganda" Roberts, June Victory, June Yamagishi, Terence Higgins, Nick Daniels III, Billy Iuso

Revivalists Jam - The Revivalists with Pete Murano, Khris Royal and Carly Meyers

Ronnie - Roosevelt Collier, Oteil Burbridge, Nikki Glaspie, Nigel Hall, Ian Neville, Eric Bolivar

Mack Ten - Johnny Vidacovich, Skerik, Mike Dillon, Papa Mali, Wil Blades, Jennifer Hartswick, Natalie Cressman, Arleigh Kincheloe, Andrew Block, Eric Vogel

Not to mention performances from Monophonics, Kung Fu, Orgone, The Heard, DJ Logic, DJ Otto, Borahm Lee, Eric McFadden, Nick Cassarino, Nate Edgar, Weedie Braimah, Alvin Ford Jr., Terrence Houston, Jermal Watson, Will Bernard. All that... and the main headliner is still TBA!

Longest set of the fest

I'd probably hope over to Alison Krauss & Union Station at some point though. Is Jerry Douglas playing with them?

Yes, and he's worth seeing all by himself.

Sucks that WSMFP is playing against Amanda Shires, Alison Kraus & The Iguanas.

Cube Time!

Sunday May 3rd is absolutely sick!
Friday May 1st isn't bad with Chicago.
Thursday April 30th would be fun with Widespread Panic and Bonerama.
Sunday April 26th is disgustingly awful.
Saturday April 25th could be interesting with The Who and Dumpstafunk
Friday looks like "Bands my SO would enjoy infinitely more than me for $500, Alex", although I would likely enjoy Wilco (though I know she'd rather listen to Aussie country).
