It's originally from Chaucer. Also found in Ben Franklin's writings.

Maybe it's in Mao's little red book or Das Kapital, and that's what Barry was referring to?

He'd be better off quoting the "sell all that you have and give it to the poor" verse, to back up his policy. Of course...as he would take a (hypocritical) pass on that lofty admonition...I doubt we'll hear it from his lips.

That cat is one piece of work!

"Sell all you have and give it to the poor."

Good idea, Mr. Obama. You and Michelle go first.

Quick search reveals:

quote:

the idiom was first noted in Geoffrey Chaucer’s ‘Troilus and Criseyde’

To be fair, that might be a very good book. So, O wins this one

Sounds like Chaucer just added a cool metaphor to something Jesus said.

"He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."

pretty sure that's in the BIble.

Unless the "her" in your stupid example is a glass house, and that inanimate house is capable of committing sin, you fail as badly as Baraaq.

Sorta, but one adage is from the bible and one is not. Baraaq Hussein Obama, the alleged Christian, evidently doesn't know this.

Hence, the thread.
