The pilot is pretty damn brave to be doing a stunt like that with a brand new 300 million dollar plane the size of a giant gymnasium or bigger.

Not watching the video but I'm pretty sure they have to do that to make sure it reacts correctly to "irregular flying/movements".

And if you screw up just this much, you'll be flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog shite out of Hong Kong

Article says it was some courteous gesture to boeing and the staff at the facility it took off from, whatever the hell that may mean.

they rag the hell out of those planes during certification, pre-delivery, and once the airlines get their hands on them, they have to do it ever so often too, those are pretty strong, powerful machines

If I were sitting in the left seat, yes.

Otherwise, no it isn't dangerous.

It kinda is when it's not even close to at least 2,000 feet off the ground, and one of the largest airplanes in the world that's not exactly as nimble as a Cessna or a gulfstream.

It may be necessary to do but that doesn't make it any less dangerous.

actually much more so, and to the guy that said 2000' of clearance was needed, no, pretty much 1.5 of the wingspan

ETA: sorry, same guy

No shite.

Boeing is like the Toyota of the commercial aviation Industry. Their planes are built to last a long arse time and much more sturdy and tough. They hardly ever break down.

I'm not saying you're wrong man but I'd like to see a link affirming this.

It's amazing what these planes are capable of. Tex Johnston was able to barrel roll a 707, and that was in 1955.

I'll work on a link, but in the mean time I've got about 20,00 hours in Boeing jets, and more than a few of those in flight test hours, they are very agile, and very capable of aerobatic maneuvers, those pics look like a fairly typical noise abatement procedure, pretty docile

if done correctly, in smooth air, in an airliner, no one in the back would ever know

I wish I could experience this without actually having to be in a big commercial plane while it does a barrel roll.
