spoilers if you haven't seen ASM2 and have no idea what comic they loosely used for the script

quote:

JHFM:
So The Amazing Spider-Man was quite unusual for you, it was probably the director's personality that brought you to this project, because he had a different vision for this film?

JH: He was very inexperienced and he and I had a very good relationship and the producers had their own opinion. And they didn't want his input. And then Sony had their own, they just wanted action.

To me, the whole thing about doing the movie was I liked the director and there was a chance to write something for the two lead characters and then she dies in the next movie. But the next movie ended up being so terrible, I didn't want to do it. It was just dreadful.

ouch

seems like Sony and the producers (Avi Arad cough cough) can't even keep a well respected composer interested in Spiderman

That movie was awful. I was shocked to see some people actually liked it on this board. They were so desperate to cash in on the Marvel success. One thing I am happy about, they realized their whole concept was the wrong direction and scrapped it.

I thought it was the best to date. I hated all of the original ones and thought the 1st Amazing was just okay.

Amazing Spiderman 2 actually felt like I was watching a comic. The writing was spot on with the writing from the comics. They were fairly loyal to the characters, especially PP.

Well, thank God there aren't many of you who did like it.

So you're proposing that the comics have no plot, have character's actions make no sense, and are just generally aimless?

I thought it would be another case of the boards "critics" hating on a movie to express their vast knowledge of film. Then I watched it myself.

I like the mystery running through this franchise.

It's better than any story that was in the original films. The funny thing about The Amazing Spider-Man franchise is that anything that is not Spider-Man related, is better than just about anything in he Raimi films.

In my opinion.

Don't even bother on this board with this movie. I fully agree with you and almost everyone I know that didn't pay attention to the critics loved it.

Regarding the score, I'm glad Zimmer did it just for the badassity of the dubstep spidey song for the final fight with electro. One thing you can't take away from Zimmer in recent big budget films is how he manages to make them feel more epic and ominous regardless of how much you get tired of the overuse of the loud wahhhh in every other film.

There's a reason they decided to scrap it and it wasn't the critics, it was the fans. It was not well received. You and your friends are not the majority.

ETA: Even Andrew Garfield could see the disaster:
quote:

It’s interesting. I read a lot of the reactions from people and I had to stop because I could feel I was getting away from how I actually felt about it. For me, I read the script that Alex [Kurtzman] and Bob [Orci] wrote, and I genuinely loved it. There was this thread running through it. I think what happened was, through the pre-production, production, and post-production, when you have something that works as a whole, and then you start removing portions of it—because there was even more of it than was in the final cut, and everything was related. Once you start removing things and saying, “No, that doesn’t work,” then the thread is broken, and it’s hard to go with the flow of the story. Certain people at the studio had problems with certain parts of it, and ultimately the studio is the final say in those movies because they’re the tentpoles, so you have to answer to those people.

Have you read a comic before? That's all it is.

The critics absolutely factor into how well it's received with audiences. To think otherwise is ridiculous. There's a reason Interstellar is making all it's money overseas instead of in the states. The perception here is it's too long and not for everyone cause it's complex aka Stupid ADD America won't like it.

You conveniently left off the part of the quote where Garfield whines about them cutting out time with Spider-man brooding over his parents. He's a great Spider-Man, but that movie did not need to be longer so Spidey could dwell on his parents for another 15 minutes.

So, Man of Steel was not liked by critics. The fan split is probably 60/40 and yet they are making another one with the same director. They had an entire plan for this director for sequels that they scrapped. This movie was horrible. You don't hear Henry Cavill coming out and dissing Man of Steel. You see many more regular movie goers that saw positives in that movie. There was nothing original in TAS2. Nothing groundbreaking. Nothing new. It was the same old shite cheesy garbage that we get from Spider-Man. It was like they didn't even try.

ETA: A goblin disease? Really? God I hate this fricking movie!

I expect your hero not giving his so called friend a cure to his deadly disease to be something of more substance than "something bad could happen". Peter was just a fricking dick to Harry and pretty much deserved everything coming to him.

Comics are hit or miss just like movies.

ETA: But a comic can right the ship a month later.

Why is the movie a 7.0 on IMDB?

No clue. Maybe they rounded up? It's liked by 67% of viewers on RT. Not even sure how it's that high.

I love how you continue to dismiss the opinions of others and just keep the "well my friends and I liked it so that pretty much invalidates the opinions of everyone else. The movie has been largely panned, took in the least amount of money in the history of the franchise, and caused the studio to completely scrap everything they had planned. But despite all of that you're right, people only disliked it due to group think. I think I had this same argument with you over iron man 3, so perhaps you do just like bad movies.

7.0 is actually really high for IMDB. I would say 80-85% of movies are less than that.
