Are they here now? Need to know when to put out feed for them again.

Soon. Put it out. I generally get the other usual suspects coming in at a millet feeder, then the finches show up.

Just bought a new feeder today. I hope the seed from last winter hasn't dried out too much.

Last year was my first time to feed them and I had them lined up to eat out of two feeders.

My feeders with regular seed are getting no activity right now. Weird.

White throated sparrows coming to mine. A junco here and there. About my only regular migrants. I hate living in a neighborhood.

I always hear them before seeing. Heard some waxwings Sunday.

Poured out all the seed of my other two feeders this morning and replaced with fresh. Thought they might have gotten wet. Hadn't filled them in over a month and they were still over half full. Normally (winter or summer) they are empty after a couple of days. Put out the nyjer seed in the new feeder. We shall see.

They can be finicky. I may have mold in my nyjer once. It wasn't being touched. Replaced, and had birds in a few days.

When they show up in winter, are they gold-chested?

Here in Arky, they will be dull-colored until sometime in Spring.

I had never seen any before in my yard until I bought one of the finch socks at Tractor Supply on a whim last year. That thing got so covered in birds that I had to buy another feeder and had to refill almost every day.

Our office has a lot of river birch. Those produce something in the spring that the finches love. We have at least 50 around the building during that period.

I don't think it's been cold enough to get them down here yet. I haven't seen any either.

Do y'all not use the upside down feeders for goldfinches?
