RPI changes drastically early in the season. For example Green Bay is 4-2 and is ranked first in RPI now. Nevertheless, last week was good for LSU clearly.

Both ODU and Clemson won't end up as bad losses.

Other than Ark., the won't play anyone as "fast" as UMass and WVU the rest of the way. Opponents are going to make them work on each possession.

That will benefit us, IMO. I know our M.O. is to run the court and up-tempo, but we are fricking terrible at times doing that

We have been at our best this year when we slow down and run a half court offense.

I think we have enough weapons on offense to run a half court set, and I agree with you. We have turned the ball over way too many times going fast. I don't mind slowing the pace down and working the offense.

I'm still trying to figure out where the press has gone, not that I'm complaining the last 2 games but this was supposed to be a Johnny Jones staple. Does he feel we just don't have the depth to do it? Is he waiting on Magee to possibly get eligible come SEC play?

If our halfcourt defense plays like it did against WVU, I don't want to full court press. They were active around the ball and off ball. They stayed in front of their man. They forced turnovers. A complete game defensively. But I also think with our top 5 players all going for 30+ minutes a game, he realized you can't do much pressing unless you absolutely have to.

I figure it's a depth thing with 5 guys getting 30+ minutes a game, but the press IMO shouldn't be abandoned but just used wisely. Best used when we get down a few possessions to get some easy turnovers and buckets. Didn't seem like we really tried to use it when we were down against Clemson and ODU.

True, LSU turns the ball over a ton in uptempo games. However they also shoot better as well.

I disagree.

In their three worst performances this year (all against "slow" teams) they shot

37% vs TTU
39% vs ODU
38% vs Clemson

Conversely in maybe their three best performances thus far (all against "fast" teams) they shot

52% vs Gardner-Webb
54% vs UMass
47% vs WVU

When the pace of play picked up, LSU shot better. Mostly because they were getting good looks after beating the pressure defense.

LSU just isn't a very efficient offense. Right now (I think) they are ranked 10th of 14 SEC teams in offensive efficiency according to KenPom. They don't really like to work the shot clock on offensive possession thus leading to some rushed shots. It was the same situation last year. It's why they looked good offensively against teams like UMass, Memphis, Ark. Ole Miss, that like to push the pace of play, but horrible offensively against teams like UGA and Tenn. that made LSU grind out possession in the half court
