We have some friends that have invited us to go to Costa Rica with them this summer. Right now they have 20 people that have confirmed to go with them.

I've never traveled with this many people before. Will this be a disaster?

Part of me feels like with this many people, everyone will not be obligated to do everything together, so it may work out, but the other part worries about logistics and whatnot.

The good thing is that with this many people, the houses that we will be able to rent are absolutely ridiculous and the price per person will only be like $300/person for a week. So that's cool.

It sounds like fun so long as people don't get weird and act cliquish.

Can be, can be a blast

You spend a little time waiting (hurry up and wait) on people, but other than that, it's generally not too bad.

Indeed. Traveling with a big group is great as long as they have the right attitude.

I did a Europe trip with like 40 people and the attitudes of the other people were outstanding, so everything was fun.

The largest "vacation" group I've been on was a bachelor party with like 10 people. Even with 10, you don't all stay together. Maybe for 1 or 2 dinners, but for the most part you'll have little groups that go do different stuff together.

You definitely won't be doing everything together with 20 other people the whole trip.

Did this in Isla Mujeres Mexico. We were staying in a 10 bedroom villa so it was awesome. As long as you have your own room, you guys should have a blast.

I know a lot of married people that do this. They go on couple retreats. In my example they are usually Christian families that do this. There are also women retreats that go on. It's pretty cool from what I've heard if you and your wife do it together.

We did that once and had a blast. You don't have to be with everyone all the time. You'll break off and do things with smaller groups. Cliques will develop, depending on interests, and you can still have a dinner party together at the end of the night.

It can be fun if you plan for a lot of alone time or know people in that group that like to do the same activities as you. Getting stuck doing shitty things you don't like because you want to stick with the group is not fun.

We had 20 people on my bachelor party in Cabo and it was awesome but throw women into the mix and I could see it turning bad quick

Is a bad idea. Too many damned people, various interpersonal histories, cliques, etc.

I agree, but hanging out with the same 4 or 5 people out of 20 just seems lame to me. I've never been the clique type. I would want to hang out with Group X for a couple of days, Group Y next, and so on.

I love trips like these because you never know who you're going to click with. You can learn a lot about people. Staying with the same 4 people the entire time would make me feel like I'm cheating myself out of a potentially awesome experience.

I wouldn't do it personally, but that's just me, did a few "group" trips when I was younger and single, always somewhat of a pain in the arse, everybody's got a different idea of punctuality, usually the biches always running late, always whining about something, nobody can ever agree or make a decision, etc.

dont try to all travel together.....just give the address to the house and let everyone worry about their own travel arrangements.

If you try to coordinate 20 people to travel together it will turn into a disaster.

Like Fin said....20 guys easy....10 guys and 10 women....could be a miserable trip

looking at this place that is 12 bdr, 12 bath, has 3 houses, 2 pools, private chef, private driver, etc that is $10k/week

but with 20 people that is only $500/person for the week

a bit worried since I only know about half the people, but all the people I know are pretty adventurous and easy going, so hopefully they wouldn't invite anyone that would be a problem

Oh, man, I love meeting new people like that. It sounds like it could be a blast. How exciting.

Minimize meals and activities with hard timelines. Problem solved.

You book through Jaco VIP?

we take a cruise with a group of 45-50 every other year. we have a blast.

I really depends on the people and how you get along with them.

The good thing is, everywhere you go, you see someone you know.

the bad thing is, everywhere you go, you see someone you know.
