Cat.... That is fine.... I have had many friends who asked me for suggestions of cool things to see in the area in addition to Downtown Nashville and the Opry Stuff. Just trying to help in case someone wants to explore the area on a day before or after the bowl game. Several friends I know are staying several days in the Nashville area and making it a mini vacation to a town they have never explored before.

I agree for the day of the game it makes little sense to venture to Franklin. But it is a very nice place to explore if someone wants to see a historic old Southern town. Every Music City bowl... downtown Franklin is hopping with people from the visiting SEC teams.

Stay away. No different then Cracker Barrel and the wait is over 2 hours

I love Franklin, I just assumed it would be a hassle for people to travel that much once in the city. Downtown has tons of food, music, entertainment, and is walkable everywhere including the stadium. Now, if you're here for more than a couple days, I 100% suggest going to Franklin. Great area.

I sure as shite don't tell people to go to Opryland though

I disagree. The wife and I both despise CB and we can't wait to go back to LC. Granted we were they when they opened and did not have to wait long

I agree and disagree.

The food is great. The red eye gravy is best I've ever had.

But the 20 minute drive and the 1+ hour wait for a table makes it not worth it unless you are in Nashville for an extended period of time.

Cat... Totally Agree.

Franklin was only suggested if someone wants a change of pace from the Downtown scene and has an extra day to explore the area. Just as cool but a completely different kind of atmosphere.

I really could not tell any difference from cracker barrel. It is country/breakfast food. The other restaurants like Husk etc are so much more unique

The Southern is unreal for all meals.

But yes, reservations are needed way in advance.

If you're going through Memphis check out Germantown Commissary for pulled pork, Also the Filling Station at Church Road in Southaven - good food

Also in the West End of Nashville check out Ted's Montana Grill, yeah it's something of a chain, but most of the burgers are made with bison meat and they're pretty damned good especially the Avalon and the meatloaf

Come on man.

Its a good burger, but its a chain restaurant in a small strip mall surrounded by office buildings.

Pharmacy Burger in East Nashville is pretty tough to beat and its local. There is also Burger Up (x2), Burger Republic (x2), Mad Donna's, etc.

The Pharmacy has some of the best burgers in Nashville. The bread they use is awesome! Also, if you like Italian try Maggiano's

How is the drive from new orleans to Nashville. Don't mind flying but seems like it might be a cool drive as long as there is no unexpected snow.

7 hours straight through the entire state of Alabama.

Its not a bad drive outside of Birmingham where there is usually traffic. Some decent scenery.

Unless of course its 40 degrees, pouring down rain, you are nauseous from a hangover on your way home the day after 1-9-2012, traffic is congested, and every car has a Bama flag and/or a giant A on it.

Worst.Car ride. Ever.

ETA:

I was throwing up in a Subway bathroom and the guy at the urinal mustve seen my LSU hat and gave me a "Roll Tide". At that moment, I knew why I should never have a carry permit for a weapon.

DEMOS is a pretty good place downtown if you want a decently priced meal. It is much more of a family place than some of the others listed in this thread. Great place for families.

My Kids love it. Food is fresh and the prices are very reasonable. It is a locally owned chain of a few locations in the Nashville area. They have one right downtown just up hill from Broadway.

Demos Downtown Nashville

It is not a bar scene type restaurant if you are looking for that. Although, they do make some pretty killer stout mixed drinks at a lower price than most bars downtown! They have a full bar.

The food is very good though and restaurant very family friendly.

I haven't been to the one in Nashville, but the Puckett's Grocery in franklin is one of the cooler places that I have eaten in a long time...I would recommend trying it to anyone who is in the area...

There is a Courtyard by Marriott corner 6th and Church St, I think. Or a Marriott on Church Street above 6th. The Courtyard is right near Printers Alley and just about 3 blocks off Broadway. Great locatikn. Stadium walking distance but a long walk. About like LSU frat row to Tiger Stadium.
