First of all, I did a search before creating this topic, figuring there would already be several topics on this. The search results came back zero. So if this has already been covered 700 times, don't blame me, blame the search system.

What do yall think about the Wheat Belly stuff?

Today I've read a few articles, but these days you don't know who to believe, even the doctors are arguing with each other.

I thought of it as another atkins type thing, but then Neal Boortz was talking about it, and he is about as skeptical as they come, and he swears by it.

What does it entail? Just cutting out all food containing wheat?

Not a fad. Down 25 lbs eating real food. Not hungry and no cravings. Feel better than I have in years. May be able to come off blood pressure and cholesterol Meds.

I'm not sure about wheat belly, but Robert Smith is one of my favorite peeps of all time.

You don't cut out fruits on wheat belly, and you don't count carbs. You do those on Atkins. Also, more starchy vegetables are allowed. I think root vegetables are.

Since I've never heard of wheat belly, it's hard to give an opinion. Shouldn't the OP have been a little more informative?

With most of the diets out there, what actually happens is the people who do them start to monitor what and how much they eat. That causes them to regulate their food intake which is the more than likely culprit for success.

If whatever fad diet gets them to their goal of losing weight and feeling better more power to them.

I've lost 30lbs before with just adding exercise and monitoring food intake and not changing anything significant about my diet.

That's it, in a nutshell. Yes, most Americans eat too damn many refined carbs. Yes, if you reduce refined carbs from your diet and substitute vegetables, leafy greens, and more protein, you'll probably lose weight.

BUT, I'm not a fan of "eliminate X and you'll lose weight" diets. All things are okay, in moderation. I'd rather keep some tasty, tasty carbs in my kitchen and simply move a little more.

One of the things I liked about the Wheat Belly book is that he goes into the science of weight loss. Lots of research on how carbs and bread raise insulin levels which trigger fat storage.
