wasnt that the reasoning behind it because the 3rd team was always whining when left out. I thought this would fix it

Playoffs was dumbest thing they ever did to college football. I dont care if they had 4 or 12 team playoff whoever is leftout will be whining.

There's always 2-3 odd men out in the NCAA tourney that has 68 teams

When the #5 team truly has a case as the best team in the country, they'll have a right to complain. I don't see that happening. It's happened a couple times with the #3 team (USC 03, auburn 04) so that's why the BCS wasn't enough. When it happens with #5, then maybe we need to expand the playoff.

Eta: people will always whine no matter what. Doesn't mean this 4 team playoff isn't better than the BCS cause it is. We get to see 3 games with everything on the line instead of 1.

If anything, a 4 team playoff was always designed with the intent of *increasing* people being upset.

The larger the playoff field, the more teams that are going to have records good enough to consider themselves contenders for the playoff field.

An 8 team playoff also won't solve this
